p.s.: petites singularités means 'small singularities'

Welcome to the petites singularités ASBL

The petites singularités are a non-profit organization established in Brussels, committed to supporting emancipation struggles and engaging in transnational collaborations across Europe and beyond.

The petites singularités have set up an online platform to share experiences, develop ideas, and create synergies among activists and resistance initiatives that do not hesitate to defend their positions against extractivist hegemony.

In this workspace, conversations unfold around our technological society. They emphasize the production of free technologies and decentralized public infrastructures, stressing intersectionality, the importance of relationships, and the amplification of our collective organizations through free software.

The petites singularités publish

Places Out(side) of (the) State

The petites singularités unfold in the heart of the city, in significant places that accompany our reflection and host our actions.

We emphasize the importance of anchoring technological theory and practice in the local space where social fibers intertwine in daily life. By social networks, we mean the human relationships that develop there: a map is not the territory, and the social networks that invade the space of electronic networks are irreducible to the online services that transform them.

Editions

Wild Literature.

The petites singularités editions pursue the libertarian and techno-critical aspirations of our organization.

Our catalog currently features four collections as research axes: the Maroon Notebooks, Spectralx, THX and, in English, sinwɛːʁ.

We are part of the co-publishing collective Overflow Bolloré to confront authoritarian liberalism.

Vide-A Game

Feminist principles for video games.

Vide-A Games is a collective work that proposes to approach video games with a feminist perspective and in the context of free software. It is about organizing ourselves to create together Vide-A Games that incorporate intersectional and anti-capitalist feminist principles both in their subject matter and in their production models. We organize to produce together using the tools of free software and feminist principles of collaboration. Vide-A Games is as much a space for self-learning as it is a place of production.

SAMIZDAT

Samizdat is our organ of wild book dissemination and distribution.

The petites singularités accompany

Amplifying resistance networks.

The singular technologies are situated within the many contexts of struggle and accompany collectives in delicate environments. Their proximity to resistance movements across continents gives them an important responsibility in human organization, their spaces of resistance, and the alternatives they propose.

The petites singularités are available to support collectives in struggle in the implementation and maintenance of their free and decentralized digital tools with the goal of empowerment.

EDRi

The petites singularités are an affiliated member of the European network for the defense of digital rights.

LIRE.IM

The network of French-speaking actors in independent publishing offers services to professionals as well as a collaboration platform to consider a common technical hub based on free software, singular technologies, and practices of software unionism.

NGI ZERO

Since 2018, within the framework of the European consortium Next Generation Internet Zero (NGI0), the petites singularités offer grant recipients their expertise to support them in their internal development and within free software communities.

And also…

The petites singularités accompany collectives by providing them with tools tailored to their needs. We have strengthened the organizational capacities of diverse communities such as the Neutral Zone, a collective of undocumented migrants in Brussels, ZonneKlopper, a cultural community based in Forest, the special interest group around the ActivityPub federation protocols (“the Diverse Fairies”) SocialHub, and many others.

The petites singularités invite

To organize in resistance.

Common time is precious: it allows us to consolidate our thoughts and strategies. The petites singularités structure communities through several in-person meetings…

OFFDEM

OFFDEM is an annual event initiated by the small singularities in off of the FOSDEM in Brussels. A group of free software actors chooses to dissociate from the ties with the omnipresent corporations in current community spaces.
Over the years, we have distanced ourselves from FOSDEM, and we gather to organize around the political issues of free technological production.

Zoethical Conference

The Zoethical conference identifies and calls for the recognition of the extractivist structuring of necropolitical capitalism; extractivism and its economic benefits require the systematic destruction of life and peoples. Destruction is not a consequence, but a foundation of the capitalist regime.
During the Zoethical conference, we wish to identify, together, the spaces of resistance and care where communities are rebuilt.

And also…

The petites singularités provide logistical support to various affinity meeting spaces.

First of all, we grant ourselves an annual reflection time, THX, to develop and guide our technical thinking. It leads to a literary production of speculative fiction for resistance.

And also to the many friendly meetings organized independently at the crossroads of resistance, fiction, rituals, and writing.

The petites singularités research

To explore the technical question from a libertarian, emancipatory, decolonial, and trans-feminist perspective.

Since the culture of hacklabs, we associate research and transmission; we formalize the issues as we collectively envision the resolution of challenges. Free software at the center of the construction of our knowledge is only understood in relation to the spaces of life and resistance.

Technical transmission is extensive; it includes the thinking about technology itself; technical choices are societal choices that can also be discussed at the community level.

The Third Techno-landscape (3TS)

Life becomes resistance to power when power takes life as its object.

At the center of the formalization of the Third Techno-landscape are linked the concepts put forth by philosophy and social sciences regarding technical questions with the situated challenges of developing techniques and free software.

The principles of the Third Techno-landscape are transmitted collectively through the use of a card game designed to explore their relationship with digital technologies and reflect on the associated collective practices.

Hack₂O

Hack₂O is a free web platform that provides community and collaborative services to groups and places working on issues related to water justice. It offers a mapped inventory of local initiatives and documentation pages related to civic struggles for water.

Vide-A Game

Vide-A Game is a collective work that has been ongoing since 2016, questioning from a feminist perspective the monochromy and the repetition of interaction models in video games.
