Welcome to my Amazon page. I've written more than 20 books for children, ranging from stories for pre-schoolers right through to teens. My debut novel for adults is Two Little Liars.

My books often contain elements of folklore, magic and superstition, whether it's three sisters breaking a family curse in the best-selling Pinch of Magic Adventures, or wild, vengeful faeries in the 13 Treasures series, the first of which won the Waterstones Children's Book Prize.

Two Little Liars, my first adult thriller, was more than a decade in the making. While it hints at superstition rather than the supernatural, it was inspired by a silver bottle in Oxford's Pitt Rivers Museum, said to contain a witch, as well as Osea island in Essex, and its eerie causeway (which features in the film, The Woman in Black). It's a story of toxic teen dynamics, an unsolved murder and a terrible lie with devastating consequences.

Prior to being a full-time writer I worked in several bars, a bakery, an art gallery, a book shop and for a children's publisher. I live in Essex with my family and cats.

This summer's must read!!
Michelle’s first thriller is a total page-turner that hooked me from the very start. The story is a parent’s worst nightmare: two young girls tell a massive lie that ends in a horrific tragedy, and they become famous across the country as the "two little liars." That one mistake follows them forever and leads to even more danger years later. As a huge fan who has read every single one of her books, I was eager to see if her adult fiction would be just as good... and IT MOST DEFINITELY IS! The way the story jumps between the past and the present is brilliant and keeps you guessing. The setting on a tiny island that gets cut off by the tide is so creepy and makes everything feel much more intense. It really captures how a childhood friendship can turn toxic and how hard it is to escape your past when the whole world is judging you. It’s a fast, tense read with a massive twist at the end, and if you’re looking for a thriller that stays with you long after you finish it, this is the one. I’m already crossing my fingers for Michelle Harrison's next thriller / adult book!

In 1990 Erin and Bee tell a lie about someone that has devastating consequences for the whole community in which they live. In 1996, fate brings them back together on a college trip where Bee is killed. In 2016, Erin is living behind a secret identity but someone out there seems to know who she is and when she is invited to a college reunion on the island where Bee died, she feels that someone on the island not only knows who she is but might also be Bee's killer.

I loved Two Little Liars. The story is told across 3 timelines, which in other books has sometimes lost me but here I felt the transition between timelines was seamless. The story was well paced and the characters were interesting and unreliable narrators which kept me guessing right until the very end who the true villain or villains might be. Just when I thought I had it figured out, the next chapter would have been changing my mind which is exactly what you want from a mystery / thriller. One of my favourite chapters is when the lie is first formulated and told, I thought this tapped in perfectly to a parent's fear of their child either becoming a victim or a villain and I could feel my own panic and rage rising as the story came out and I love authors who can do that, tap into a fear to create an emotional response form the reader. The setting on the island was cool and I loved the sense of isolation and the hopelessness of being cut off from any form of help.

Overall a very decent thriller with memorable characters. Plus when you reach the end, make sure you check out the Spotify link. There are many musical references dotted throughout the story that will provide a great blast of nostalgia for anyone who grew up in the 90s and the author has provided a soundtrack at the end which I think is a very cool idea, something I would love to see in more books!

Two Little Liars is a psychological thriller that slips between past and present with the ease of a whispered rumour, pulling you into a story built on guilt, girlhood, and the kind of secrets that never stay buried as neatly as people hope.

Erin and Bee were once inseparable, bound by a friendship that felt feral and bright — until the tragedy that turned them into tabloid villains. The novel opens in the long shadow of that night, with Bee murdered on a college trip and Erin left to carry the weight of a story no one ever let her forget. Twenty years later, the past stirs again, and the survivors of that trip are drawn back together, not out of nostalgia but fear. Someone knows exactly who Erin is. Someone remembers what she did. And someone is ready to kill for it.

What I loved is how the book blends psychological suspense with a subtle thread of witchcraft — not in a flashy, supernatural way, but as an undercurrent of power, intuition, and the dangerous alchemy of teenage girls who believe they’re untouchable. It gives the story a slightly uncanny shimmer, the sense that something old and sharp is watching from the edges.

The pacing is tight, the atmosphere deliciously uneasy, and the author captures that particular cruelty of adolescence — how quickly admiration can turn to obsession, how easily loyalty can warp into something darker. The adult timeline adds a melancholy weight, showing how the past refuses to loosen its grip, no matter how many years have passed.

By the final chapters, the tension coils beautifully, and the truth — messy, human, and devastating — lands with real force.

A twisty, compulsive read about the stories we tell to survive, the ones we bury to forget, and the ones that come back demanding to be heard. Perfect for readers who love their thrillers with a hint of the uncanny and a deep, lingering sense of dread.

With thanks to Michelle Harrison, the publisher and netgalley for the ARC

Smart and vivid, I found Two Little Liars completely gripping. Normally I can guess where I'm being led, but the twist in this one caught me out. I really enjoyed the depth of character development too. The claustrophobic, suffocating nature of secrets, the non-linear narrative, relatable characters - all brilliant and thoroughly enjoyable. Couldn't put it down and can't wait for her next one.

This is not my usual genre but I am a big fan of Michelle Harrison’s middle grade stories so I grabbed a copy and enjoyed it thoroughly. Well crafted, I particularly like the split timelines which are really well done. It’s an engrossing story and I can see why the past haunted the heroine (even though it wasn’t her fault). Slight spoiler here – I wasn’t against Erin reconnecting with Aiden, but I was not a fan of the way it happened, and I also wish the discovery of the murderer had ended differently (I won’t say more than that). Overall a great read, especially for fans of the genre.

Erin and Bee have little in common and yet fate throws them together, not once but twice. As children they live on the same street, but their family homes are very different. Erin is encouraged by her mother to include Bee, even though she doesn't want to. Despite this, they go on to tell a lie that starts a catalyst of events beginning with a boy beaten to death by the one person who is supposed to protect him. For their own safety, the two girls are given anonymity, changing their names and moving away, from where they live and from each other. Six years later, they find themselves together again on a college trip to an island with links to witches and witchcraft, during which Bee is found dead in suspicious circumstances. Twenty years later again, her death is still unsolved. Her classmates and teachers return to the island looking for answers, but once a story is told it can never be untold.

The story takes place over three time periods, 1990, 1996 and 2016. The suspense builds up slowly and the narrative switches effortlessly between the time periods. I liked the way the present day story mirrored some of the old tales of witches and witchcraft. There are plenty of twists and turns as secrets are revealed and it kept me guessing right to the end. The author has also created a Spotify playlist, which compliments the book well. It includes songs I remember from the 1990s and was a nice little trip down memory lane. There is some bad language in the narrative which I didn’t like, but it was appropriate to the setting and story. Other than this, it was well written and I enjoyed it.

Thank you to Net Galley, the author, & publishers for letting me read this eArc, Two Little Liars by Michelle Harrison is a dark, twisty psychological thriller. It's about two little girls who told a big lie that changed everyone's lives for good, including their own. One is murdered during a remote trip to a cabin, and the other is haunted every day with their own self-loathing, but also the loathing of someone else, someone watching, waiting. This is a book I found hard to put down. I'd recommend it for mystery murder fans, but also those who like a hint of Supernatural. I would give this book 4/5, and I'd like to discover more from this author.
