Shotaro Ikenami (Author)
Shotaro Ikenami (1923 – 1990) was a bestselling Japanese author famed for his multi-million copy selling series of historical fiction novels. Over his lifetime, he won the Yoshikawa Eiji Literary Award and Naoki Award for popular literature. Over a dozen of his works were adapted for film and television, and his work remains exceptionally popular in Japan.

    Yui Kajita is a translator, illustrator, and literary scholar, originally from the countryside in Kyoto, Japan, currently based in Germany. She completed her PhD in English literature at the University of Cambridge in 2019. She was shortlisted for the 5th JLPP International Translation Competition in 2021 and longlisted for the John Dryden Translation Competition in 2022. Her publications include a co-translation of Yosano Akiko in Modern Poetry in Translation (2020) and Walter de la Mare: Critical Appraisals (co-edited, 2022). She translates prose fiction, poetry, children’s books, manga, and texts related to art and culture. Fascinated by the art of storytelling since she was little, she makes ink and watercolor illustrations inspired by nature, books, and folklore.
