Worth the money for peace of mind for traveling. Way cheaper than buying a standby generator and a propane tank. When installing just be careful not to touch the positive terminal with the negative terminal or you’ll get a dangerous spark and/or brick the device.

    Our house has a partial crawl space with a French drain and sump pump the exact deaign of which I'm unsure of. We lost power during a heavy rain and realized the limitation of this system when water creeped into the finished basement. Looking for a solution, it seemed like most systems were a new sump pump with a built in battery backup which seemed unnecessary. We also had a company come out to give options regarding encapsulating the space but they never got back to us, presumably $$$$.

    In any case, enter the Pump Sentry. This connects easily to the system that is in place and provides battery back up to the sump pump which is critical when the power goes out during heavy rain. We bought this ahead of 2018's hurricane Florence coming toward the east coast. Luckily we did not need it then, but after receiving it, it was hooked up in 15 minutes and seemed to be working when i triggered the pump by pouring a few pitchers of water into the pit. Hurricane Michael surprised our area with heavy rains and wind that knocked our power out. The pump sentry functioned perfectly, and still was charged 20 hrs after we lost power, keeping our basement dry. Great purchase for the peace of mind. Main downside: did not come with wingnuts to attach the sentry solidly to the battery, so keep in mind when purchasing. It made adequate contact without these but not ideal. Able to purchase the battery and container for battery at local superstore for good price relative to what we saw on amazon.

    Now that power is back on, its indicating that its recharging the battery, so all seems to be in order. Will update if any issues down the line but hopefully never tested again!

    While the vendor should never disparage the competitor - I can. This unit is twice as heavy, had a great manual and when I called with a question a human picked right up, was not rushed and clearly explained the answer as well as my follow-up question.

    While I have seen devices with a LCD panel (which would be nice), additional ports (like second plugin and USB plugins), this device simply worked. Lights came on, the three LEDs will tell me everything I care about and even when the battery needs to be replace because it stops holding a charge. This makes it worth the extra $100.

    I returned a PumpSpy unit that would have met my needs, but there was an issue registering if it was charging the battery - a fairly significant detail. Calling PumpSpy's overwhelmed help line I was hung up on immediately 5 times in a row, called back 20 mins later and was hung up on immediately until the 5th time. The person could not find the email I had sent the night before, repeat with pictures and a video. But as soon as he entered my phone number the help ticket (which had not been put in the queue for response) came up. He could not answer my question, but referred it to his manager, and I never received a call back.

    Pump Sentry was a MUCH better experience.

    The installation of this product was super easy. The hardest part was mounting it to the wall without any assistance (not recommended). Once attached to the wall, the rest was just following the instructions on connecting it to the marine battery and plugging it into the wall outlet. It charged the battery overnight and keeps the battery fully charged (I occasionally see the "battery charging" light come on). Since installing the battery backup system, I have only had one minor power outage (a few minutes), so I was not able to observe the system in action, but I assume that it was working. Overall, this is an expensive device (plus the cost of the battery), but based on the calculator on the company's website, this should provide my sump pump about 7.5 hours of backup power. It is worth the peace of mind and will allow me to sleep through the night if the power goes out.

    Update (Jan 2024) - Luckily, the power in our area is quite reliable, so I have not had a chance to test the device out in a real-world situation. We had a storm recently that flooded the basements of houses across the street from mine and that got me thinking that I should probably test this device out. So, I pulled the plug connected to house power to simulate an outage and it ran great for the hour that I tested it. (The sump pump was operating about once every 15 seconds due to the rain we had gotten.) So far, so good.

    Note: I would recommend installing the device on a piece of plywood that is offset from a damp wall. I initially just installed a piece of plywood on a damp wall and installed the inverter on that. It turned out that the plywood was acting like a sponge and was causing the inverter to trip my GFCI plug. I then installed a couple of 2x4s between the plywood and the damp wall to get some airflow behind the plywood and inverter and that seemed to solve the GFCI tripping issue.

    Update: It has been 5 years now and still working great. Highly recommended.If you are concerned about your power going off to your sump pump just get this. I bought this for my Wayne 1/2 horse power sump pump. I called the Manufacturer and they stated I needed the 1622 PS instead of the 822 PS since the Wayne Sump Pump I have draws 9 Amps and could blow a fuse on the 822 PS which has an 8 Amp limit. This is much better and easier than adding a back up Sump Pump to your sump pit and since usually the back up sump pumps are a lot weaker than your regular pump. Just connect the battery to the 1622 PS and plug your sump directly into the 1622 PS and then plug the 1622 PS into your outlet. It is that easy. It is expensive but very high quality.
    Also, great customer service. I have called with questions twice and got quick answers.
