It's possible the data is being put in the WMC database to different versions of the channels to those you see in the guide. I don't have WMC installed any more but when I used to test it I would reset the WMC database if I wanted to sort out any issues like this. I would delete the WMC database and it's backup and set it up from scratch. Alternatively I seem to remember there I put an option in EPG Centre to reset that retains all the channel definitions. The 3rd Nov run may have finished OK (as many others have), but no guide has been available since the Oct 26 run! It is always empty. WMC always wants to download guide, which I recall is the wrong thing to do. I have tried many times (re-running zap and collector, copied working xmltv.xml files from other system that works). The EPG Collector.log file shows the last run was on the 3rd Nov at 10:13 and it seems to have finished OK. The parameters were loaded from C:\Users\TVPC\AppData\Local\Geekzone\EPG Collector\EPG Collector.ini. The Copy.log file shows it's last run was on the 2nd Nov at 5.00 am (presumably your scheduled task) and it failed because it couldn't find the EPG Collector.ini file which it expected to be in C:\ProgramData\Geekzone\EPG Collector\EPG Collector.ini. Steve: as previously mentioned, I have two systems tracking and recording shows. Well, this time one is working fine and the other stopped. It comes up with an empty guide!. WMC reports guide listings are unavailable for the current system time and year settings. Those settings are correct. I recently moved and only set up one tuner for awhile. I needed two to record The World Series and shows on at the same time. When I added the new tuner I had to re-match the listings to the channels. I made a mistake during set up and chose "no" for the guide data, then WMC wasn't saving my channel lineups after EPG collector import. Have had total success with translating SD series-episode data to work with EPG Collector and Media Center and my tools. Now as new season starts I find my real problem (which had been hinted at when I first started this), SD not only fails to collect series-episode info for some shows, but even puts in BAD data!! It is common for users to find the built-in Plex EPG listings incorrect, missing, or unable to handle multiple sources. Moving to EPG Collector with a Fixpack for Sky UK or Freesat data, as you have, is a good solution. Regarding "Plex Tags", these are classifications that EPG Collector adds to the XMLTV file. What I mean is that even if a channel isn't included in the channels I scan, I still end up getting EPG data for it. I'm scanning just the handful of channels listed above to get ALL the guide data available. That's what seems odd. How do I just scan for EPG? Is that "Find EPG" vs "Collect EPG"? But that seems to bring up a similar interface where it wants me to add channels one by one.

Not sure what you mean by mapping between channel numbers? There is an option in EPG Centre to find EPG. You can use that instead of trying to collect from each frequency to determine which frequencies work. Just to check the data you could output an xmltv file as well as import to WMC. The xmltv file is just a text file you can inspect.

I've already removed the frequencies that timed out, so I guess that was worth doing. Do you know why there isn't a mapping between the channel numbers? How would one normally figure out what channels to scan, short of scanning all of them, seeing which ones time out, and then just doing those? I have now seen on one occasion the description in the program I wasn't. All the data is there over the air, I just seem to be picking it up sporadically for some reason. That's why I think I need to continue...

Take out the frequencies that time out. You should also reduce the data collection timeout back to 300 (5 mins) . The frequencies that work only take around 45 seconds. In fact on the Advanced tab just use the defaults. You also seem to have the number of days to collect set to 2 so even if there is more data you won't be collecting it. From the log there are 40 stations with data for about a day. If you get me a transport stream dump of one of the frequencies that work I can check that EPGC is extracting...

Attached are the logs from most runs I have done so far. I have narrowed down that I only seem to get anything on scanning these channels within EPG Center: 7 9 14 15 20 21 23 24 26 31 32 34 35 36 However, this includes the EPG data for a much larger number of channels. In other words, it does not appear there is any relationship between the channel in EPG and the channel on TV. These just seem to be the channels that pick up some data. No, neither my TV nor a separate TV set top box has any kind of Internet connection. I just did it last night and it ran for several hours (mainly given that on a lot of channels, I do get that no signal error, so it takes a while on those - I probably need to shorten the timeout or something). I'd like to re-run and see if I can get it with more descriptions and maybe more time, as some channels, including those that previously had it, are now missing guide data. Maybe saying there was no guide data was incorrect. EPGC didn't receive any data so that could also indicate that possibly tuning didn't completely work. I think that the menu tops out at 51 because that was the information I had when this was developed 10 years ago or so. If there was a description in the data you would be seeing it. Not sure if ticking the 'irrespective' box will make nay difference. Might be an idea for you to create a transport stream dump of one of the frequencies that work...

Additionally, to add onto this, channel 4 (with its subchannels) all have guide data as well. So something is not right that it was never able to pick up any signal on those. Like I said, Windows Media Center picks up every channel perfectly just fine using the same tuner, though of course it doesn't process EPG. So I don't think the "lack of signal" errors are accurate here.

Hello Eric The issue was eventually solved, and you are correct, that it is an issue in MediaPortal and NOT EPG Collector It has been discovered that when the TVGuide.xml file is introduced to xmltv in MediaPortal it will only set up the channels names data and not the programs data. The process to follow to get the MediaPortal xmltv working is to introduce the collected data in the TVGuide.xml into the chosen xmltv folder where the xmltv.dtd resides and wait for the plugin to update or force the...

Thanks for the response! It doesn't make sense to me though, because channel 14 does have guide data (it and its subchannels). My TV is able to pick up the current program info just fine. Is there any way to add all of the channels at once? The only way to add a channel I can see is on the ATSC tab, change the channel in the dropdown and hit update. Doing this manually for every single channel one by one would be annoying. I don't want to filter anything at all, I just want to get ALL the data available....

To add to that I have no reason to think ATSC tuning won't work. The code hasn't changed in a very long time and I had feedback from several users at the time that it did work.

From the log it looks like freq 473000 ch 14 did tune OK but there was no guide data on it so the collection timed out. I would imagine you need to try all the others.

Interestingly, I get a different error message when I scan both channels 2, 4, and 14 (not sure why they have to be added one by one, so I haven't done them all, but thought I would pick a few at random). Despite the different error message, it still doesn't pull any EPG data.

Do not understand: if I run collector manually it pulls the ini file from c:/barger/appdata/local/greekzone/epg collector folder if the program scheduler runs the same collector file it pulls from c:/programData/greekzone/epg collector folder Anyway copied int file from first folder and put copy in second one above. How does directory get assigned? WMC or your EPGCollector? so far I only found ini's in username/AppData/Local/Greekzone/EPG Collector folder inclosed is ini and ini.bak files from each computer Acer is one having problem Tvpc2 is working not sure this helps

Thanks for taking a look Steve I will check the format as you suggest As it happens I did try including all the ITV and Channel 4 channels but it made no difference I am wondering if this is down to Windows 10 so I will do a re-install and if it does not work I will go back to Win7 and have to get all the motherboard drivers set up manually, (that is why I put Win10 on, so much easier than manually installing hardware drivers) Regards Greg

The image shows that EPGC was trying to tune to frequency 177000. I thought that you just imported an xml file? If that's the case it suggests the scheduled task is using the wrong parameters.

Log looks OK. Maybe the format of the channel ID (output tab - xmltv settings) is wrong so MP doesn't link the data to the channels. Don't know about Channel 4 and ITV. There are several of each to choose from - maybe try including one of the others.

Ignore above, Collector was failing to complete. Got one system working just fine, but other system I get the following on trying to run. If I run by double click on EPGCollector.exe, works fine and generates log file that is enclosed. But if scheduler runs task I do not get any log file update and it fails. So I took video of output of run and privided pict of problem it seems to be calling out when it stops.

I found another problem Steve, but not sure your the guy to ask, but I re-call, there was something about overlaying existing data in our discussions years ago. So for example if I download 2 weeks data, then the following week I do the same thing again. Does or should the second week of the first download get replaced or updated with the first week of the second download. Or is there a way to control that? What I found with last two downloads (on Sundays). First download showed "Family Law" on 20250526210000....

All changes in. First computer somehow I messed up wmc. So I copyed previous clone. This allowed full media center update. All looks good. Second computer should update tonight. It will be wrong for following week, but nothing much recording right now so no problem. Thanks for your help. Will try to get back to you later in year to let you know how this works out. So I did verify that zap2it had both season's and episode's numbers one less than actual, Schedules Direct for values I'm looking at must both be reduced for values to come out correct. Crazy, but can do.

I should have mentioned that the season/episode numbers are based on zero so they need to be one less than you expect see in WMC (as per the xmltv specification). You need to use Task Manager to stop mcGlidHost so you can delete the database.

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\eHome\mcepg2-0.db is the path and problem to both solutions. File is open in mcGlidHost.exe and will not let it be deleted. In process did re-run xlm dowload, so checked out past old data base time frame. Found two shows with S/E data but, were wrong?? Family Law should have had S3E3, but had S4E4. And NCIS: Orgins had S2E17 but should have had S1E16? Per new xml data base! Do not understand, this is so simple, makes no sense!

Two ways. Delete the WMC database and its backup so start from scratch. From memory the files are in ProgramData\Microsoft\ehome or something like that. In EPG Centre under Run - Windows Media Centre Maintenance - Clear programme guide.

The mxf file is what gets imported to WMC. It might be necessary to start with a clean WMC database before running EPGC.

I only replace records that has numeric S/E data and are 3 or 4 numbers long ( ie. 123 = S01E23 & 1234 = S12E34). All the rest of the records are ignored and printed to new file as is (May ask Schedule Direct to fix that data later! If that is possible). Do not understand use of mxf file, but found Grey's Anatomy for 5/15 and Hawaii Five O for 5/21 both with S/E's in mxf file. But accessing media center's guide for those programs does not show S/E in comments. I believe it should be present. I will...

There are season/episode numbers present in the mxf file for some programmes eg Hawaii Five O. Give me an example programme where you think they should be but aren't. I also notice that in the xml file there are onscreen numbers that are preceded by a letter eg Chicago Fire. Will that mess things up for you when creating the episode-num tag?

Made changes in xml file, re-ran EPG. Recorded several impacted files last night. No S/E data found! This was run against a xml file that ran in orginal format way then again modfied to new format. Will that produce expected results, or will it not repace existing records? Do I have to wait for new weeks of data to come? I put modfied xml file and log in dropbox, if that is needed.

I only did the change for import to WMC, not XML output. So the numbers you see there must be on the file you import. In addition there is no 'S' preceding the number. Having just checked the 'before' file you posted above the numbers are indeed there. I can do XML output as well if you need it.

One more thought. I alreay tried to manually modify a xml to create the type of S/E record I believed your program was looking for. But it failed. If you could tell me how to convert xml file myself (I'm all ready reading and analyzing xml), it would be simple for me to output an xml file with whatever format EPG is looking for.

I did some more searching after your comment. Your are right, there are a lot that make no sense! What I had done was to modify my program that processes the xml data sets to read this new format as S/E's. For the shows that I track (prime time - comedy, detective, etc) in the past 5 weeks of data I've processed, only one show came up with wrong S/E's. They use last two digits for events and remaining for season. IE 1133 is S11E33. Was bold of them to assume less than 99 episodes, but not unreasonable.

The XML file you posted at the top of this thread didn't have any invalid times. With this option set there is a line in the log just near the end which shows the total of invalid start times encountered. The only validation that is applied to an input xml file is that the stop time for a programme is later that the start time. I'm looking at the season change today.

The SD data is very similar to the zap2it data with the episode-num tag with in dd-progid format providing the necessary information to correctly schedule series recordings. However what's missing is an episode-num tag with the xmltv_ns format which provided EPGC with the season and episode numbers. Hi Steve, Yes you are correct! MCE needs mcuupdate and reindex, also I have always enabled the option (run standart tasks after import). I have run many tests so far. Finally I am 100% positive to confirm that mcupdate tasks have nothing to do with the crash issue..! for my case the crash issue stops when I tick the option "Dont create entries with incorrect start or end times" I know this sounds odd but this works for my xml file maybe something in my xml is wrong with time tags and this option...

EPGC can download the Schedules Direct data directly and looking at the code it seems as if the data is pretty much the same format as that from zap2it. Can you post an example of the output tv.xml file so I can take a look. I used to have a subscription for Schedules Direct but I let it lapse a long time ago. Doesn't an EPG update need mcupdate and reindex to be run? There is an option in the WMC section (run standard tasks after import) which does it for you. You might like to try that and see if MC still crashes. The incorrect start/end times option probably doesn't have any impact with your data. I am not sure 100%, maybe the mcupdate auto running in the background, i read for a similar crash issue mention in other mce older forums that happens when upload a custom xml, so i decide to give it a try. I forget to mention that i also have tick in general output tab "Dont create entries with incorrect start or end times", maybe this helps too to avoid a corrupt db in mce? Hi Steve, back again. EPG Collector has been doing fine, but zap2it web went down and now using Schedules Direct, which is working... almost. So here is my problem. Windows Media Center does pretty good job, but sometimes adds stuff and drops stuff randomly. So I wrote a program to process the xml file to identify and track all the programs I want to record. That way I can validate shows to be recorded and I also produce a document that I can use to track shows with. So to get the xml file from Schedules...

Is it possible you were scheduling recordings while the mcupdate was running? How is DVB-T broken? Example log if possible. I can probably include the season number change at the same time.

Finally i found a workaround for the crash, i disable mcupdate and mcupdate_scheduled tasks from Taskmanager/Microsoft/windows/Media Center that seems to fix the issue so far. i will test it more. Steve can you please fix the new issue for dvb-t broken functionality in this version? Also is it possible to add an option to copy from the xml element (episode-num system="xmltv_ns") the Season number and append it to the title of the show? etc title of show GREY'S ANATOMY to GREY'S ANATOMY S10

Yes, that's correct. I also notice that the crash did not occur when i shedule a show for the first time but only when i shedule the next shows then crash randomly, especially to the same channel, immediatelly shows this windows crash screen i attach. Then the other two MCE error windows follows after a couple of restarts of the MCE
