I have a panoramic picture I took at Michigan International Speedway from the infield and I was wondering if photos like that can be used as backgrounds to tracks. The best part of the pictures are the Grand Stand. Also, can I use a jpeg or do I need to convert that to png? Thanks Joe |

Hi,
hmm. seems the ml archive looses attachments. Presumably those on the list
get it. Just for the archive , here's the patch:

Hi, I have made a mod to allow centreing the joystick without touching it . Most basic joysticks have buttons on the stick itself . Grabbing the stick and pressing a button is impossible without affecting it's position , so calibrating the centering this way does not make much sense. I have also renamed the Reset button which was a bit misleading : it does not reset the old values as it's name suggested, it restarts the calibration sequence. I only realised this when I started looking at the source code! This patch allows centering of the axes without touching the stick and hopefully is a bit clearer to the new user. Please indicate if this is the prefered way of submitting proposed changes. regards. |

Well I had not seen that page of instructions, I refered to the generic SF intructions you refered us to when notifying the new server addresses. It was a new checkout. I usually use -P as an update option not for checkout. I thought it was for pruning dirs that had disappeared from the server. I had not thought of the need to maintain empty dirs on the server. I'll bear that in mind for other projects. Thanks. BTW you may want to update that page now SF has moved cvs ;) > >> Now the crunch test: "Gentlemen start your engines!" > > Na na na, look at the link above, "make datainstall", hm, did you? > >> Oops. Is this more drunk driving or a glitch in configure? Thanks for the fast reply. regards. |

Many thanks, ./configure --x-libraries=/usr/lib --prefix=/usr/games this runs fine. I had noticed that reference to gentoo when I scanned the FAQ before installing 1.2.4 but thanks to serhij's fix in I did not see any problems on the release version and did not make the connection when this came up on cvs. Thanks for pointing me to the solution. I still get same errors from make and make install : make stops with ... make[4]: Entering directory `/svn/torcs/torcs/src/tools/launcher' make[4]: *** No rule to make target `tools'. Stop. make install stops with .... Stop. I removed all drivers >inferno2 drivers/tutorial* and tool/laucher tools/scandoc, they all seem basically empty. Since they are accessory files I guess they are just empty stubs at the moment. Anyway, that gets me through `make` and make install. Hi, There is something in the FAQ about this (point 4.2.8). You can try to resolve it by adding the configure option "--x-libraries=/usr/lib" (maybe the exact value of this variable is different on your computer). I simlinked /lib/libm.so.6 to /lib/libm.so and to /usr/lib/libm.so and got just the same result. It seems the torcs wrapper in /usr/games/lib is able to find it to run the game but ./configure fails. could you post your `env` please merci. Hi,
first try at checkout torcs cvs (from new SF cvs ) btw the new server
seems nice and fast at least my 512k ADSL connection has been flat out all
the way through.
./configure : cant find libm
checking AL/al.h presence... yes
checking for AL/al.h... yes
checking for sin in -lm... no
configure: error: Can't find libm. Please check config.log .....
bash-3.1#tail config.log
#define PACKAGE_TARNAME ""
#define PACKAGE_VERSION ""
#define STDC_HEADERS 1
#define TIME_WITH_SYS_TIME 1
#define VERSION "1.2.4"
#endif
#ifdef __cplusplus
extern "C" void std::exit (int) throw (); using std::exit;
But I do have libm and torcs 1.2.4 runs fine.
$ torcs -l |grep libm
libm.so.6 => /lib/libm.so.6 (0xb76ca000)
$ ls -ail /lib/libm*
1526798 -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 157356 2006-05-08 18:56 /lib/libm-2.4.so
1526799 -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 14024 2006-05-08 18:56 /lib/libmemusage.so
1526832 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 11 2006-05-08 18:56 /lib/libm.so.6 ->
libm-2.4.so
Is this a specific version it needs?
Please advise.

Hi all sf.net updated the CVS infrastructure, the repository are now at "torcs.cvs.sourceforge.net" (was previously "cvs.sourceforge.net"). Look at the sf.net site status for more information and http://sourceforge.net/docs/E04 for all the details. OK, but I am not sure what you want to adjust in the cameras, really.. if it's merely the static position then just move around the track with a robot and see if it's acceptable or not - what else is there to do? What is your proposal? I don't have the original email. As for comparing different _types_ of cameras, a useful categorisation is this: a) panning: perfect lock-on through to camera-man with delay to motionless b) motion: static, on rails, flying, on-car, following driver's body motion, following steering wheel movement? c) focus (zoom and center): single car, multiple cars d) management: fully automatic, auto-focus, manual focus I've played with most of those setups and my feeling is that you can tune them so that they work well for any track - the only thing that really needs tuning are static camera positions for each track. I think the easiest way to set up camera positions would be by having the following two features: a) Replay b) Online management of static cameras But perhaps I don't understand what you want -- Christos Dimitrakakis Homepage: http://www.idiap.ch/~dimitrak/main.html Music: http://olethros.dmusic.com |

Hi, > Christos Dimitrakakis wrote: >> What's wrong with pressing 'pause' and then 'F12' to take screenshots? Nothing wrong with that, except no-one will do that for all segments of a track. With that storyboard feature you could set up a robot to drive one round and you'd get all the screenshots (at comparable positions). Then switch cameras, let it drive for another round and again you get all the screenshots. If the file names are chosen as in the argument to printf function then you can open up 2 or 3 instances of your favourite file browser and compare them scene by scene. Bernhard Wymann schrieb: > My thought:-) Telepathy;-) There is as well a movie feature, for those who do > not know it read the FAQ. Yes, I'm aware of that. (Those movies indeed attracted me to torcs a while ago) Nevertheless movies give too much information too quickly to compare two alternate camera settings. That is: unless someone knows a movie player which can display several tracks at once and synchronously to each other and which has a reasonable cue/review feature. Given there is such a player this would (together with the movie feature) make my proposal look pretty outdated and you should paste it into the bit-bucket and keep the lid firmly closed. Hi,
Bernhard Wymann schrieb:

how about an automatic screenshot utility so the camera
views could be objectively discussed?
Something like this at stategic places in
src/modules/graphic/ssggraph/grcam.cpp
would create a storyboard of a track/camera combination:
static tRoadCam *lastCam;
static num = 0;
...
curCam = car->_trkPos.seg->cam;
if( lastCam != curCam )
{
lastCam = curCam;
/* some routine to write a screenshot to disk
could be here. Instead it's just a printf:
*/
printf("Cam_%s_%05d\n", curCam ? curCam->name : "default", num++ );
fflush(stdout);
}
Greetings,
Frieder

Hi Andrew > I'm sorry I haven't got a patch, but the changes are few & simple to > add. If you do get a > chance to look at this I think a lot of people would appreciate the > difference. I will have a look at it later (right now I'm heavily reworking the viper, when it is finished 1.3.0-test1 will come soon, at least if I get back CVS access on sf.net -> devel CVS is gone at the moment). What cameras concerns in general, there are all the time debates, taste differs. What I could imagine is (if somebody picks it up) is the following: We could provide camera templates in TORCS which are entirly user customizable. E.g. you have the following types: - Fixed on the car. - Fixed on the track. - Fixed on the track following the focused car. - Flying. - .... Now that is nothing new so far, but we could provide a GUI for the user to manage (add/delete/configure) cameras, so it could say: options -> "good subtopic name" -> cameras -> track -> trackselect -> add fixed camera. There he places the camera and sets up the type and his preferred parameters. Same for the car cams, etc. I would do this as well after 2.0, because we need a new GUI for 2.0, BUT the implementation which gets the camera settings from an XML and sets it up and the modifications in ssggraph could be alerady done. It would be then at least for now a "hardcore XML" feature. This would be a unique feature, I have not seen this in any commercial racing sim/game. > Btw did you get my email re the problems I'm having with e-track-4's > terrain? Yes. I will answer it right now, altough I have no clue:-) Bye, have fun, Bernhard. -- Visit my homepage http://www.berniw.org Official TORCS racing: The TORCS Racing Board, http://www.berniw.org/trb |

Hi all Changes are in the CVS: - Fixed a bug which prevented the display off all avilable resolutions which xrandr advertises (Bernhard). - Applied suggested gcc 4.1 compile fix (Mart Kelder, Bernhard). - Fixed wrong flags (-kk) in ssggraph (Bernhard).
