Water tower

This tank near Folwer Lake was painted in April 2021 by Jason Swales of Studio Surf in Marion Bay. The wrap-around mural is dominated by two emus set against the setting sun and the pink salt lake. On the back side it shows a group of men harvesting salt from a dry salt lake and a horse drawn wagon loaded with salt being hauled away. The twin steel elevated water tanks are approximately 80ft tall and are located about 3 miles southwest of Morpeth, Britain. The airfield and water tank was built during WWII as part of the Royal Air Force Station Morpeth which was home to the No. 80 (French) Operational Training Unit RAF. 55°08'14.6"N 1°42'32.0"W

In 1886 the smaller water tower was built, it is 40 ft high with a windmill on top. The tank has a capacity of 40,000 gallons. The use of wind-power on a water tower is an innovative idea back in those days. The larger water tower was built 1937 built adjacent to the defunct one. It has a capacity of 150,000 gallons, nearly four times that of the old tower. In 2019, Punxsutawney Phil’s image was added to the 300,000 gallon water tank during a renovation that included inspecting, sandblasting and repainting. The cost for the project was $575,000. The water tower was among the top 12 finalists selected during the 2019 Tank of the Year competition sponsored by Tnemec Company, Inc., a leading provider of high-performance coatings.
