That “beautiful writing” might be weakening your scene. Metaphors aren’t wrong—but if they’re replacing behavior, you’re unintentionally telling. Emotion lands harder when it moves through your character.
Through their voice, their choices, their restraint. Next time you revise, ask:
Where am I naming the emotion, even indirectly?
