Before the world as it is - whichever it is - existed, there was Tabel. This world was created and ruled by angels, and their leader Gabriel. They had good intentions, sure, but as much as they tried to make a good world to live in, they had little to no grasp on the clockwork of people.
In one particular human's experience, Tabel was boring. Janus was an artist, and though they made ends meet with a job as a gardener while painting was kept a hobby, they were practically withering... (No, for real; look at their hair. In Tabel, their hair looked like sad, dying weeds.)
One day by mistake, Janus slipped past the borders of reality's canvas, and ended up in Phantasmus, a world of everchanging colors and nonsense. While this would've normally destroyed a person, and this knowledge would be taken with them to their grave, Janus thrived. They figured out working together with this new plane of existence, and when they managed to fully utilize the opportunities of reality melting to silly putty before their eyes, they travelled back in time to prevent Tabel from being created.
With newlost marbles, Janus popped into the timeline, looked at the angels, and said, "No."
Tabel was erased from existence, and the replacement was decided by drawing a card.
Now, seperate timelines exist with each variant having each their timelines with different outcomes.
