xvibit
A downloadable fangame for Windows, macOS, and Linux
DESCRIPTION:
"We fight. We survive. We endure.
We don't need a reason."
The critically acclaimed Final Fantasy XVI, reimagined and transformed into a SNES-style JRPG. This fangame of the free demo of FFXVI features new chiptune arrangements of 18 tracks from FFXVI's first chapter by xvibit, as well as a mix of modified SNES FF SFX and sprites, original pixel art, and tilesets by artists from the itch community.
Full credits for assets and plugins not created myself are found in-game.
This solo project was my first time developing a game! I hope my fellow FF fans enjoy the fruit of my labor as much as I enjoyed laboring over it :)

What is the current state of the game? How far does it go through the story?
Absolutely in love with this project, HAPPY 3rd Anniversary to FFXVI and THANK YOU FOR SHARING THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!
Will this just be for the Demo Portion or are you looking to Demake the entire game eventually?
This is the moment when Clive Rossfield Become John Final Fantasy XVI-Bits.
That's aside, this is very well done!
Omg this is so beautiful, I didn't like and never play FF16 ori but I will try this one. I wish in future you will do rpg game on neogeo system, the 2d sprite are way more superior than snes.
**Edit: I noticed another user posted about this freeze. It does appear to be related to approaching them too quickly but if you wait out the animations for a moment then you can progress without issue.
It isn't letting me reply or edit my original comment.
The demo is very fun! I have played through it a couple of times and just finished a speedrun which led me to notice a bug when entering the mess hall with Clive and Rodney. If you approach the soldiers fighting too quickly they will stop and the game will lock.
Other than that very fun experience and hope to see more!
This and your 'reply' comment is really helpful in diagnosing the issue! I will iron it out in a 1.01 at some point soon :) Thanks!
Any chance of a web build in the future? Thanks.
This is beautiful
Wouldn't it make more sense to actually make the demake for the SNES? Instead of just looking SNESy?
Yeah I had originally thought of the project as a rom hack for 6, but it ended up being a bit more impenetrable than most alternatives. If you have the know-how I encourage you to do just that! It would probably be sick
I hope you develop the entire game. This part is already amazing.
This is absolutely amazing!! I really enjoyed playing. I was honestly really impressed. From the gameplay, to the graphics, and to the music. What an interested take on the FFXVI battle system, but turn-based! Hearing 'A Metia's Prayer' in 18-bit brought a tear to my eye. I also loved that you included the dynamic background music in Stillwind. I was impressed that you went the extra mile to even include the dynamic background music in the game! I was honestly expecting 'Sixteen Bells' but you served! I could truly see the passion in this FFXVI demo final product.
Some feedback I have is that the battles felt really fast, but that's because actions only take .5 seconds to execute. So, I would make attack animations a little longer so that battle doesn't move too fast. For example, in the old FF games, the character would run their attack animation and then 1 second later, the amount of damage taken is shown.
A bug that I ran into was when I was trying to take the stairs and go to the stables to meet Rodney. However, because I went back inside the castle after exiting, the merchant and the bearer reset to their original positions, barring my path. Luckily, I saved before going back inside the castle so I was able to get the merchant and bearer out of my way.
Overall, this was an amazing final product! I really encourage you to see this demake to completion. I think that many people would love to play this game and it would become very popular! You'd get influencers like the Night Sky Prince talking about it!
If you'd like to assemble a team to continue working on the game, I know some people who have worked in these kind of video game projects before. I also have experience working with video games, and I would really love to be a part of this project! Please let me know if you want contributors and how they might take part in this project!
Thanks for the info about that bug! I'm putting together the outstanding issues for an eventual 1.01 :) If you follow me on bsky we can chat more!
Really impressive work! Awesome!
Amazing job on this!
Great job! This is excellent!
Just finished this and I must say...BRAVO!! Its been a couple years since I played this last and I feel like I was transported right back into the world of FF 16. I would LOVE for you to keep the game going and do the full game. If you do and need any testers or anything I would be honored to help you! If you make a discord or something for this project I'd love to join that as well! Keep up the amazing work!
So sick! Thanks for making this! I love FF16 and this is such a cool way to play it. Lots of clever things, fun that we got to explore the world map a little and I like that it shows you how many buffs/debuffs have been applied. I did run into two bugs: 1. I'm pretty sure the POtion tooltip says 60 HP but when I used it I'm almost positive it healed for 50. 2. In the dining hall when there's supposed to be the scene where the soldier gets killed it froze / locked up the first time (couldn't move and the soldiers just never moved from where they started). Would love to see more, but very cool standalone as is.
Dang, I knew I was getting overly clever with the way I was animating those soldiers. Were you able to progress after restarting the exe or was it fully softlocked? I'm making a list of bugs to squash at some point soon! Thank you!
Yes after restarting it worked fine and autosave was the same room
Love the game man please if you are able to i would love to see more of this!! Amazing work from a very talented team of people!
You know what I would like to see? The ENTIRE GAME demade by you with everything from the original game, the dlc content turned into endgame content, and to top it all off, converting the whole thing into an SNES rom! That would make my dream come true!
square higher them to make the full thing real.
i will pay for it again.
Really hope this gets done completely. It would be amazing.
It's amazing. Thank you.
this is incredible! I've been playing it for 30 minutes and enjoying it a lot! You should open a Discord for this project
Ok I just finished it and it's honestly amazing! I downloaded the demo of the normal game last year and didn't get past the training session/tutorial battle at the beginning lol the game just didn't click for me. This version however is totally up my alley and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you for making this and I really look forward to see more of your future work, whether it's more FF16 or something else. Keep up the amazing work!
Please finish this ðŸ«
Looks like you're a big ff6 fan. Me too. Looks neat I might give it a shot later
This is great, well done.
IF you intend to carry on past this demo, i'd keep it hush hush and not tell anyone online or post about it's progress, 'cos SE will most cerytainly shut it down.
Good luck with this project if you intend to do the full game.
This is absolutely amazing. Are there any plans to continue beyond the demo/1st chapter?
If only Square would come up with the idea of Pixel Demasters like this. I'm sure many an older fan would appreciate them immensely.
Either way, this is fantastic work!
Android version please
I agree! This looks amazing. Touch controls and an apk would be even better!
I'm playing it on iOS using an app called Questplay. Maybe there's an Android version or an equivalent
