Review
Located just next to Opera Garnier (the original branch has been in the 16th arrondissement since 1976), Passy Mandarin is a luxurious outpost of Chinese cuisine. No neon lighting here – rather, orchids on the tables, shaded lamps and a tinkling fountain make up the chic atmosphere. If the place is known in Paris for being THE place to get Peking duck, you still need to shell out €95 for the privilege – but you can order from the rest of the menu for a bit less, safe in the knowledge that you’re a world away from sickly sweet soy sauce and chewy rice. Start with the famous dim sum, firm outside, soft inside and delicately scented. Then perhaps a sophisticated sweet and sour pork, served in a half pineapple. You’ll savour the memory of your meal here – it's worth saving up for a special occasion.
