Dynasty Typewriter

The Hayworth Theatre, a 200-seat performance space on Wilshire Boulevard, relaunched in 2017 as comedy venue Dynasty Typewriter. The venue absorbed much of the top-notch programming from NerdMelt and the Trepany House at the Steve Allen Theater following the closure of those two venues, and quickly became a favorite among both up-and-coming and established comedians. Today, the Dynasty hosts a full schedule of stand-up alongside live podcasts, variety shows, screenings, speaker series and the odd concert.

The small lobby has a great buzz—there’s usually a communal jigsaw puzzle in progress—and the concessions bar sells craft beers, Compartés chocolate bars and the venue’s signature Dynapop popcorn, which you can complement with salty or sweet mix-ins. The only bummer is there’s not much to do after the show in the Westlake neighborhood—you’ll probably have to get back in your car and drive to anywhere that you might want to grab dinner or a nightcap.
