The first sequence of Heian nidan contains a challenging combination. It begins with the defensive technique Jodan haiwan uke, combined with a Jodan kamae, then continues with the double technique Soto uke / Tettsui uchi. Hasami zuki occurs in the Kata Chinte, executed with the variation of Nakadaka ippon ken. The scissor-strike technique is basically a double Mawashi zuki. It is suitable for the Jōdan or Chūdan areas. The fists start from the hips and move in a circular motion to the target. The technique ends with both backs of the hands turned upwards. Both fists strike on a horizontal line. The stances suitable for this are Zenkutsu dachi and Fudō dachi.

The Tettsui hits with the outer edge of the closed hand. Most often, this technique is brought to the target from the top down (vertically or diagonally) and sometimes, less often, horizontally. Like the Uraken, the Tettsui is also used in part to defend. The target sections are extensive: the head, the torso at various vital points, even arms and legs can be attacked with it.
