All bright galaxies within 20 million light-years, including the Milky Way, form a structure known as the "Local Sheet." This sheet spans about 34 million light-years across but is only 1.5 million light-years thick.
The Milky Way and Andromeda are encircled by twelve large galaxies, creating a ring about 24 million light-years wide. Known as the "Council of Giants," this ring surrounds the Local Group.
