The gods of Terravest have warriors called soldiers. Anyone who was once indebted to the gods repays their debt in war. Soldiers see the horrors of war before them. These horrors are reinforced by the fact that a soldier cannot die (for he is undead). This endless cycle of constant suffering, death, and resurrection is called the circle of pain. And to make this cycle less painful, the gods send Gial, who begins to make the soldiers laugh.
