With the introduction of dormitories in 1966, there was a growing need for a larger dining facility. The cafeteria/dining hall was located on the main floor of the building, along with the faculty lounge and dining room.
First Men's Basketball Team: because of low male enrollment at the school, the first men's basketball team wasn't formed until 1910. The team consisted of all the men enrolled at the school. The first game was played on December 9th vs. an unsanctioned team from Salem High School known as "The Reserves." Salem Normal prevailed with a final score of 6 to 5.
Art Club at Salem Normal School: This picture shows the Art Club in 1923. Faculty member Charles Frederick Whitney is at the easel. Whitney graduated from the Normal Art School (now Mass Art) and published several books. He frequently took the club to Devereaux Beach to practice their drawing and painting.
