Whilst planning our trip, I read many books and articles about the countries we were to visit. Sigrid Rausing had just published an account of her stay in Estonia in 1993-4 whilst completing her anthropological fieldwork. She describes the lives of the minority Swedes who lived on the peninsula of Noarootsi. Estonia had become an independent country once more and the world changed for the people of this small country.
