Digitec Galaxus AG, which has Migros as its majority shareholder, has seen its revenue grow rapidly in the past decade. Domestically, the e-tailer saw its sales increase fourfold since 2015. Having achieved a firm grip on the local market, the company has been expanding its Galaxus brand to neighboring countries, starting with Germany in 2018. Going head to head with the ultimate e-commerce giant Amazon.de could be considered a bold move for the Swiss debutant, and as of 2025, Galaxus has not yet made it into the German top 10. Nevertheless, the company has been growing to such an extent that further expansion in Austria, the Netherlands, Belgium, France, and Italy has already taken place. The European e-commerce market is a continuous battleground between domestic players and foreign giants. In most of its new markets, Galaxus faces Amazon as the European market leader. The American bookstore-turned-marketplace leads the rankings in Germany, France, Italy, and Austria. In the Benelux, the market looks slightly different, in a way that Digitec Galaxus is very familiar with: here, local companies are able to fight off global giants like Amazon and Temu. The Dutch online marketplace Bol.com has been the market leader in the Netherlands since its inception at the end of the 20th century, offering a similar product range to Galaxus.
