Reading this blog post from Drupal’s founder, one line hit me hardest: "If it matters, keep saying it." It’s a reminder of all the times contributors didn’t stop pushing for inclusion and accessibility – even when leadership, including Dries, was slow to act. For years, people advocated tirelessly for accessible code and for including people with disabilities. Those voices were often dismissed – deferred to what I call the "mythical phase two” that never quite arrived. Yet persistence mattered. Eventually, a critical mass of advocates created real change, and today Drupal is recognized as one of the most accessible stacks in the ecosystem. That’s worth celebrating. Speaking up when it’s uncomfortable isn’t easy. It can bring burnout, pushback, and personal or professional challenges – but it also teaches courage, strengthens communities, and shapes both the products we build and the people who build them. Real progress happens only when marginalized voices are heard. Today on Drupal’s 25th birthday, we should celebrate the knowledge, friendships, and community it has given us – but also honor the persistence and courage of the voices that refused to be quiet. The people who stood up shaped the product, the community, and all of us – and we are better for it 🫶
