Who is suffering as a result of India's Quick Commerce growth? Quick commerce companies must balance customer expectations and conditions of the delivery guys as ultra-fast deliveries become the norm. These unsung heroes are denied the most basic rights that typical employees enjoy because they were mistakenly labelled gig workers through a legal gimmick. Their income is driven by demand, weather, and the harsh requirements of algorithms that put speed ahead of safety, making every day uncertain. With tight escapes, collisions, etc., over half have faced death head-on. Not everyone has been as lucky. Their lives are tested in hit-and-runs, crushed under a system that completely ignores them. Every piece of data has a name and a family behind it. A Flipkart rider in Uttar Pradesh, a Swiggy executive in Noida, a delivery worker in Munirka, or another in South Delhi were all victims of this sector. There is no recompense or safety net. The unsettling reality is that they are abandoned to fend for themselves, with little regard for their misery. The technology that promises us convenience and efficiency actually gives us less and demands more. Convenience shouldn't come at this cost. There is hope for a more just future in which they are not disregarded in exchange for our conveniences. Humane working conditions, equitable pay, and safeguards against issues.
