AI isn’t replacing instructional designers—it’s expanding what we’re capable of. Over the past few months, I’ve been hosting workshops to help real IDs to bring their AI projects to life. And these aren’t surface-level demos.... We dive into real use cases, engineer effective prompts, and sometimes even write JavaScript to power the experience. I just published a new video that showcases four of the most impressive AI-powered projects to come out of these workshops. In it, you'll see: 1. A Storyline roleplay that simulates group facilitation with six unique AI-powered personas 2. A custom-coded web object that teaches people to read bearing rate graphs (built without writing code) 3. Accessibility Tip for Instructional Designers: WCAG 2.2 SC 1.2.1–1.2.9: Time-Based Media (Audio/Video) If you're using videos, narrated presentations, or animations in your learning content, be sure to provide accessible alternatives, so all learners can access the information. Learners who are deaf or hard of hearing, blind or low vision, or have cognitive or learning disabilities may miss key information if there’s no alternative to media. Best Practices: Captions: Include accurate synchronized captions for all spoken content in videos. Allow the user to control if the captions are turned on or off. Transcripts: Offer text transcripts for both audio and video, including speaker identification and important sound effects. Audio Descriptions: For videos with important visuals ( diagrams or on-screen text), provide audio descriptions or a second version of the video with them. Descriptive Titles: Make sure media has clear, descriptive titles (e.g., “Lesson 2: Photosynthesis Explained with Animation”). Learn more in the comments.

Most instructional designers solve the same problems the same way. Tara Mount doesn't. When she showed me some of her content, I stopped giving advice and started asking questions. I took notes. On my own customer success call! Tara's operating from a completely different creative framework. She turns critical thinking into habit — even with the skeptics and "just tell me what box to check" crowd. I was thrilled when she agreed to share her best practices at #MicrolearningCONF. Just wrapped up the interactive Inventory Room for my Rescue Flight demo. In this scene, learners explore a cluttered gear room to locate essential rescue tools — but with a twist: 👉 Only seven attempts 👉 Each correct item earns a life 👉 Their choices directly impact the missions that follow I’m also using Articulate’s JavaScript API to manage logic and feedback behind the scenes — which has helped scale down the number of triggers needed significantly. Clean, responsive, and much easier to iterate on. From “What do I build?” ➡️ “How do I enable?” 🚀 Our learners (hello Gen Z, Alpha, and Beta 👋) want self-directed, in-the-flow, and social.
