“Nathan bridged the gap between concept and reality and he did so using simple, clear language that made sense to me. I think his approach led considerably to the success of the project both in finished product and respect to my budget. ”

Virtual Reality Terrain Mapping
In a project for CSC 433 (Computer Graphics) I worked with a team of two other students to create a terrain mapping application in Unity. The application leveraged public domain terrain data in the form of .DEM files. A custom C program we wrote converted the DEMs into raw BMPs. Several tiles of these BMPs were stitched together into one big one, and then imported into Unity. From here, we deployed on multiple platforms: desktop, Google Cardboard, and the university's virtual reality CAVE. On…

Several tiles of these BMPs were stitched together into one big one, and then imported into Unity. From here, we deployed on multiple platforms: desktop, Google Cardboard, and the university's virtual reality CAVE. On each platform you could fly around to examine the terrain data. High-res satellite imagery was layered on top of the topology data, 3D vegatation models, and rippling water were also added.
The project involved coordinating between our team's dev efforts, the professor's expectations for the project, and the CAVE staff.Other creators -

Ag Water
I created the Android app for Ag Water, an initiative by the university's agriculture department. This is a hybrid app, meaning that the actual content of the app is actually a website, with the native app acting as a shell around it. This allows for a few nice features that a website alone could not offer, such as offline caching, higher responsiveness, and of course a spot in the Google Play store.

REConnect
The UITS mobile team is working with UA's campus rec center to create an app which reports usage levels (headcounts) in various areas of the rec center. Features include graphs of usage levels over time, live webcams, and reservation schedules. Gym employees can log in to the app to update current information. On the technical side, this project involves parsing and caching remote feeds, CAS authentication, and a some data manipulation.

For the final project in CSC 352 at U of A, I worked on a team of four on a 6-week Java software development project. We had weekly meetings including scrum sessions, code reviews, and pair programing. Our final product features geometric pathfinding, sprite animation, and networked multiplayer. We utilized Git for distributed version control (my first introduction to it). Our hard work paid off and we ended with a final grade of 100% on the project.
