As with most features on LinkedIn, we collect and use (or process) data about your use of the platform, including personal data. This could include data about your use of generative AI (AI models used to create content) or other AI features, your posts and articles, your saved job application answers and resumes, how frequently you use LinkedIn, your language preference, and any feedback you may have provided to our teams. We use this data, consistent with our Privacy Policy, to improve or develop the LinkedIn services (see Privacy Policy, Section 2). 

Additionally, if we have reason to believe that you are currently in secondary school or its local equivalent (e.g., gymnasium or high school), we do not use your data to train content-generating AI models, even if your setting appears turned on.

Providing a service to members and customers: Members or customers may provide personal data as an input to a generative AI powered feature, which could result in personal data being provided as an output. For example, if a member used our generative AI ”Writing Suggestions” feature to help write an article about the best advice they got from their mentors, they may include the names of those mentors in the input. The resulting output from the generative AI ”Writing Suggestions” feature may include those names, which that member can edit or revise before deciding to post.

Inputs by LinkedIn: Where LinkedIn controls the input for a generative AI powered feature, depending on the feature, we may process your personal data. For example, if you choose to use “Profile Writing Suggestions,” we will use (or process) the relevant data on your profile to generate the suggested text, which you then can review, edit and decide whether to add it to your profile. Another example is when we recommend “Suggested Posts,” we may summarize your post content including any personal data you included in the post. We also may use your saved job application answers or resume data as an input. If you choose to share your resume data with hirers, it may be used as an input so that they can find you and see how you match their job qualifications.

Feedback and Improvement: When you choose to provide feedback for a generative AI powered feature, we may associate your feedback with you and use it to improve or modify our platform and products.

Safety, Security and Compliance: We leverage a variety of automated techniques, including generative AI powered tools, as part of our effort to keep our services safe, secure and compliant with our user terms, policies and applicable law. In connection with this important work, we may process personal data, including personal data sourced from our services.

The artificial intelligence models that LinkedIn uses to power generative AI features may be trained by LinkedIn or another provider. For example, we may use models that are provided by Microsoft’s Azure OpenAI services.

When LinkedIn trains generative AI models, we seek to minimize the use of personal data. For example, training data will not include private messages. Additionally, if we have reason to believe a member could be under 18 years old - for example, if they are currently in secondary school or its local equivalent (e.g., gymnasium or high school) - we do not train content-generating AI models on their data, even if their setting appears turned on.

We use the following categories of data to train our generative AI models that create content:

• Profile Data: Data that members provide in their LinkedIn profile, such as: name, photo, current position, prior work experience, education, location, skills, certifications, licenses , volunteering experiences, publications, patents, endorsements, and recommendations.
• GAI Usage Data: Content members input into our GAI features (e.g., prompts, search text, requests, questions)
• Jobs-related Data: Responses to screening questions and resumes that members add to their LinkedIn account for ongoing and future use (but are not tied to specific customers or job applications)
• Groups Data: Group activity and group messages
• Member Content: Member posts, articles, poll responses, contributions and comments (all formats)
• Feedback: Feedback and improvement data, which may include support requests from members, thumbs up/down reactions to AI-generated suggestions, reporting of issues with generative AI content, or feedback submitted through our feedback features
  

Some examples of data we won’t use to train our generative AI models that produce content include:

• Private messages (including your InMail and Inbox messages)
• Log-in credentials (such as passwords, authentication credentials and tokens, encryption and signing keys)
• Payment methods and credit card data
• Member-provided salary data or job application data attributable to a specific member

Please note that feedback and improvement data you provide to LinkedIn to improve our products and services may be used to improve LinkedIn’s generative AI models and not covered by the Data for Generative AI Improvement member setting. To object to the processing of feedback and improvement data provided to LinkedIn, please use the LinkedIn Data Processing Objection form.

The artificial intelligence models that LinkedIn uses to power generative AI features may be trained by LinkedIn or another provider. When LinkedIn or its affiliates train a GAI model, we may use the content our members provide to LinkedIn to train our generative AI models, but only where applicable law and a member’s applicable settings allow us to. For example, we may use any content you submit as part of any feedback you choose to provide to us (even if you have opted-out of this GAI training setting).

In some cases we may obtain training data from others. For example we may use synthetic data sets or other publicly available information to help train our models. 

If you wish to object to our use of content to train our models, you can do so through:

(1) Notice of Copyright Infringement form for copyrighted materials.

(2) LinkedIn Data Processing Objection form for content that includes personal data related to you.

Yes, you can opt out of having your LinkedIn data and content you create on LinkedIn used to train GAI models that generate content (including fine-tuning). To opt out, use the Data for Generative AI Improvement member setting. Except as set out in the notes below, opting out means that LinkedIn and its affiliates (including Microsoft) won’t use your LinkedIn data to improve models that generate content going forward, but does not affect training that has already taken place. 

In addition to the setting above, members can also object to the use of their personal data and content they create for training non-content generating AI models (e.g. models used to personalize your LinkedIn experience or models used for security, trust, or anti-abuse purposes) using the LinkedIn Data Processing Objection Form, accessible here.

Please note:

1. If we have reason to believe that you could be under 18 years old - for example, if you are currently in secondary school or its local equivalent (e.g., gymnasium or high school) - your personal data and content you create on LinkedIn will not be used to train generative AI models to create content, even if your setting appears turned on.
2. If you wish to object to our processing of your data or content for training generative AI models that do not generate content or for training other AI or machine learning models, you can submit an objection through LinkedIn Data Processing Objection form. 
3. For members in the Designated Countries and the UK, we’ll be making an update to our European Regional Privacy Notice on November 3, 2025 to include information about how we use and share your personal information for generative AI training purposes and the choices you have to opt out. Additionally, if you are in the Designated Countries, your personal information will not be made available to LinkedIn affiliates (such as Microsoft) for training generative AI models without further notice.

Your personal data may be used (or processed) for certain generative AI features on LinkedIn. For example, we process the data that you provide to the generative AI powered feature (e.g. writing suggestions), or that LinkedIn might create if you use a generative AI powered feature (e.g. profile writing suggestions). We also use your data in AI features that help you find a job, including, for example, your job title, years of experience, and saved resume. We also process your data for features that help hirers find you such as Hiring Assistant. Like other features on LinkedIn, when you engage with generative AI powered features we process your interactions with the feature, which may include personal data (e.g., your inputs and resulting outputs, your usage information, your language preference, and any feedback you provide). When you engage with a generative AI powered feature on LinkedIn, the information you provide and any content that’s generated in response will be stored by LinkedIn until you delete it. If you are looking for past sessions or just want to discover the personal data LinkedIn has about you, you can use our data access tool to review the data we have about your activities on LinkedIn and, should you choose, you can delete or request deletion.
