Nearly all apps require your permission to use features from your Android. These permissions are written by Google, but don't necessarily reflect how the LinkedIn app will use them on your device.

When you install or upgrade the LinkedIn Android application, we may ask you for consent to access permissions on your mobile device. Consent to these permissions is optional and you can use the app regardless of whether you provide consent. If you refuse to provide consent within the app for optional access permissions, certain app features may not work properly.

Below are some of the permissions the LinkedIn app requires and examples of how we use them. You can see a full list of permissions the app uses by visiting the Play Store.

Optional Permissions

• Phone, Contacts/Calendar (read your contacts, modify your contacts, read/write call log, read calendar events plus confidential information): This lets you invite contacts from your address book to connect on LinkedIn and sync your LinkedIn contacts with your phone book. This also lets you sync your calendar with LinkedIn so you can see when you most recently met with your connections.
• Photos/Media/Files: This lets you upload photos, videos, or audio files from your device and save them to your LinkedIn profile.
• Microphone: This lets you record sound, such as to record voice messages and video content.
• Camera: This lets you record videos to post on LinkedIn, take profile pictures, and scan QR codes.
• Identity (find accounts on the device, add or remove accounts, read your own contact card, create accounts and set passwords): This lets LinkedIn provide personalized recommendations using your Google contact card. For instance, this allows you to easily use your Google contact card photo for your LinkedIn profile if you don't have a photo on LinkedIn yet. This also lets you quickly access your LinkedIn account from the Accounts section on your phone. If you're signing up for a new LinkedIn account with a verified Google account, this lets us verify your email address with Google.
• Location (GPS and network-based): This lets us help you add a location to your profile. When you add a location to your profile, you'll find jobs in your area and you'll show up in recruiter searches for candidates in your area. Your GPS data is temporarily collected to determine the postal code and then deleted.
• Device ID & call information (read phone status and identity): We may use this permission to provide features such as showing a profile photo when you receive a call from a LinkedIn connection.
• Systems tools (send sticky broadcast, test access to protected storage): We use sticky broadcast mechanism to communicate between different modules inside the LinkedIn App. For example, it allows us to sync recommended and saved jobs for you to return to at any time.
• Other (control vibration, prevent phone from sleeping, read sync settings, read sync statistics, toggle sync on and off, send sticky broadcasts, view network connections): This allows us to send you push notifications. This also gives you the option to download your LinkedIn connections to your phone book if you'd like.
