Last summer, I moved from being investor in United Manufacturing Hub (UMH) to taking on an operative role. In buzzword terms, you could say: I went all in! After our 5m EUR funding round, Jan Thomas from Startup Insider took the chance to grill me on a few topics: - Why will UMH bring manufacturers into the AI age? - What did you learn in a "1.5 years due diligence"? - Why ist the next funding round NOT our next goal? - What was it like raising funding as an ex-investor? - What was the emotional journey of changing jobs? #UMH #theindustrialdatacompany #industrialai

Everyone wants AI in factories. The problem: optimization requires a data foundation first. Whether you're building AI or just helping your team make better decisions. That foundation eats 90% of the project. Most teams never get past it. We spent years as system integrators and consultants. Crawling under conveyors, wiring sensors, building dashboards. Same story everywhere: machine data trapped in silos. Projects shelved before they start because the data work alone takes months. UMH is the foundation we wished existed. Open-source. Community-centric and product-first. We're not building data infrastructure for its own sake. We're cutting the time it takes to actually improve production. In Europe and everywhere else. Where we are today: thousands of users, dozens of manufacturers, sites across Europe & the world. HiPP, Böllhoff, Edeka and many more: Edeka for over three years. What's next: a better experience for OT, IT, and AI agents alike. Wider connectivity. A stronger open-source core. Strategic partnerships to reach more factories worldwide. All to do one thing: cut the time from problem to solution. €5M to make this the standard. Led by KOMPAS VC, joined by seed + speed Ventures, Sustainable Future Ventures, and Archimedes New Ventures and Backed by people who've done this: Jan Oberhauser from n8n, Jeff Hammerbacher from Cloudera. And many more great founders and operators. None of this could have happened without our incredible team. Thank you! We're hiring. Link in the comments. Kennt ihr sie auch? Ich rufe sie meistens als Erstes an. Die besten Datenpuzzler im Unternehmen. Jeder hat sie. Und jeder braucht sie irgendwann. Die Kolleg:innen, die wissen, welches System welche Zahl ausspuckt. Wo man klicken muss. Keiner will, dass Arbeit so aussieht. Aber oft gibt es im Unternehmen keine bessere Alternative. Die Systeme sprechen nicht miteinander. Die Daten sind da. Nur nicht dort, wo entschieden wird. Also wird gepuzzelt. Von wenigen. Für viele. Unterm Strich gibt es viele Daten. Viele Tools.

One connection between them. That's the starting point. The demo: - Dynamics ERP sends work orders to the shop floor - Real Siemens PLC controls a virtual paint line (3D digital twin) - Smart scheduler minimizes costly paint changeovers - Production status flows back to ERP automatically Built on United Manufacturing Hub (UMH). Implementation measured in weeks, not months. 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗳 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗥𝗢𝗜 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗯𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗻𝘀. The barrier isn't technology anymore. Open-source platforms exist. Cloud services eliminate capital investment. Modern tools handle legacy protocols. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗯𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗿?
