Researcher Dr. J. Bern Jordan and graduate assistant Nitya Jani performed user research with individuals attending the National Federation of the Blind State Convention! Dr. Jordan created a new prototype kiosk with accessibility features, including vocal cues and dragging/swiping capabilities. The people who tested the kiosk provided vital feedback that Dr. Jordan will use to improve his prototype. This research will hopefully lead to a more standardized way of making modern touchscreen kiosks accessible.

About us
Housed at the College of Information Studies at the University of Maryland College Park, the TRACE RERC (Rehabilitation Engineering Research Center) is supported by grant #90REGE0024 from the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR), part of the Administration for Community Living, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Our mission at the TRACE RERC is to capitalize on the potential that technologies hold for people experiencing barriers due to disability, aging, or digital literacy, and to prevent emerging technologies from creating new barriers for these individuals. In doing this, we bring together disciplines such as information science, computer science, engineering, disability studies, and public policy. We engage in research, development, tech transfer, education, policy, and advocacy.
