RIETS - Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary

Today is the 33rd yahrzeit of Moreinu HaRav Yosef Dov Halevi Soloveitchik zt"l. In 1941, Rav Soloveitchik was appointed rosh yeshiva at YU's Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary, succeeding his father, who, as rosh yeshiva since 1929, had transplanted the Brisk legacy on American soil. The Rav enriched this system of learning through a creative fusion of Jewish and Western scholarship. In 1983, through an endowment by Maurice H. Saval, RIETS' Semikhah Program was renamed The Rabbi Joseph B. Soloveitchik Semikha Program. The Rav's ordination of some 2,000 rabbis over nearly half a century is unmatched and extends his influence beyond the borders of time and place. For 140 years, the halls of our Yeshiva have been shaped by the Rebbeim who walked them — and by the talmidim who emerged as notable leaders, carrying our Mesorah into the world and shaping Jewish life across generations. להגדיל תורה ולהאדירה — a legacy upheld by our Rebbeim and talmidim, spreading its teachings from the walls of our yeshiva into the world of Klal Yisrael.

We celebrated Rabbi Dovid Miller and the alumni of the RIETS Israel Kollel with the Torat Tzion Award, recognizing more than fifty years of immersive Torah learning in Eretz Yisrael and devoted service to Klal Yisrael.

Hundreds gathered for a sold-out Yeshiva Dinner celebrating the living chain of Torah that defines our Yeshiva — from rebbe to talmid, from generation to generation. We were proud to honor Elliot Gibber, recipient of the Eitz Chaim Award, for his extraordinary leadership and enduring commitment to sustaining Torah learning at Yeshiva University and RIETS. We presented the Amud HaTorah v’HaMesorah Award to Rabbi Yaakov Neuburger, whose decades of teaching as a rosh yeshiva have shaped generations of talmidim through depth of learning, clarity of thought and personal guidance. We also celebrated Rabbi Dovid Miller and the alumni of the RIETS Israel Kollel with the Torat Tzion Award, recognizing more than fifty years of immersive Torah learning in Eretz Yisrael and devoted service to Klal Yisrael. Together, we reaffirmed our sacred mission of L’hagdil Torah u’L’ha’adirah — strengthening Torah leadership today and for generations to come.
