Our work speaks for us.
About us
RAVEN SOFTWARE is the developer of numerous award-winning games, including significant contributions to the blockbuster Call of Duty series. Founded in 1990 by brothers Brian and Steve Raffel, Raven Software has gone from a five-person company with a dream of creating a role-playing game for the Amiga, to the developer of numerous award-winning games and best-selling titles, including Hexen, Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast, Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, and most recently being a major contributor to the Call of Duty® franchise. At Raven, we’ve built our company on expectations. An expectation to always design the games that define industry standards for graphics and playability. An expectation that award-winning games are the norm. But more than anything, a clear understanding of our market’s expectations: that being, for us to consistently produce the games that people want to play. In other words, exactly everything we’ve been doing since 1990.

We're proud to see Brian Raffel highlighted in this behind-the-scenes feature from CBS 58. It’s a great look at how a small Wisconsin startup grew into a studio helping build one of the biggest franchises in gaming - all while staying rooted in the Midwest, investing in local talent, and looking out for the next generation of game developers. If you’re curious about our studio or how #CallofDuty comes to life here in Middleton, check it out! https://lnkd.in/gspky2sY

To celebrate the release of Call of Duty #BlackOps7 this Friday, Raven Software hosted the Badger Men's Basketball team for a behind-the-scenes look at game development. Welcomed by co-founder/studio head Brian Raffel and co-studio head David Pellas, they toured the grounds where over 15 years of Call of Duty has been made and put their aim to the test with a preview of Haven's Hollow, the new Resurgence map coming to Call of Duty #Warzone in #BlackOps7 Season 01.

"...a team is greater than the sum of its parts. We're just working together and driving together." Our very own co-founder Brian Raffel spoke at the Cap Times Power Hour about 35+ years of game development - and what it took to overcome unexpected challenges along the way. Check it out!
The global gaming industry is forecasted to exceed $200 billion this decade, worth more than the music and film industries combined. “We didn’t tell anyone. We just snuck up,” said Brian Raffel, studio head of Middleton-based Raven Software. The industry wasn’t always so profitable, though. When Raffel first started, a friend of his wife expressed pity, telling her Raffel’s pursuit wouldn’t be very lucrative. But back then, video games hadn’t permeated many aspects of life. In conversation Nov. 6 with career consultant Mark Richardson at Cap Times Power Hour — a quarterly Wisconsin executive speaker series — Raffel recounted the rise of gaming and the role Raven Software has played in it.
