What is a polycrisis? It's the current moment we live in that has compounding and intersecting crises (housing crisis, the climate crisis, the financial crisis) that really magnify each other. Kate Weiner, co-author of the book, Compassion in Crisis, helps us wrap our heads around the reality we currently live in: polycrisis. Kate prompts us to ask, “what can we do to really name and live into that reality?” Learn more about the book Kate’s and Kailea’s work in our latest Response episode here: https://lnkd.in/e4iTFmfP  (Or wherever you get your podcasts!) #Polycrisis #CompassionInCrisis #DisasterPreparedness #disastercollectivism

Amidst the U.S./Israeli genocide on Gaza, Palestinians are working to preserve and rebuild Gaza’s libraries and cultural institutions. In the last two and a half years, Israel has destroyed at least 87 libraries across the Strip. Before the genocide, Gaza had more than 200 million books This past April, Omar Hamad and Ibrahim Massri opened the Phoenix Library, the first library to open in Gaza since the genocide began in October 2023. Hamad and al-Masri collected and preserved more than 5,500 books. And at the library of the Great Omari Mosque, volunteers with Eyes on Heritage are working to preserve Gaza’s cultural memory by saving and restoring books and manuscripts after Israel bombed the mosque in December 2023, destroying most of the 20,000 rare books. Learn more about the critical projects and find the full story for free at https://lnkd.in/ezzQVPgm This story was published in collaboration with Egab. https://lnkd.in/e-TF2F4D #Palestine #Gaza #Library #PhoenixLibrary

The genocide’s toll on books and other valuable written materials has been catastrophic. "
