Announced today at EthCC in Cannes, Self now supports biometric European Union IDs as valid forms of identification—expanding beyond biometric passports. With tens of millions of EU-standard biometric ID cards already in circulation across 27 countries, this update enables more people to verify their identity securely and privately through Self. Self makes privacy-preserving identity technology accessible to everyone. The addition of biometric EU IDs expands the range of identity documents supported by the protocol. Users can now store both passports and national IDs, and selectively prove specific information, including age or nationality, without revealing personal details. This expands Self’s accessibility, adding to the already 129 countries served through state-issued passport support and reaching tens of millions of biometric EU ID cardholders The integration brings Self to a broader user base and unlocks adoption for more apps, protocols, and wallets to add identity verification steps without compromising user privacy Adding EU-standard biometric cards as a form of identity verification is a step forward in Self’s mission to make the tools necessary to onboard and interact with the onchain economy safer and more accessible for all. 🎙️ On September 12th, I’ll be giving the closing talk at the Pacific Blockchain Summit to explore something we don’t talk about enough: 👉 Identity — in a world of agents, AI, and adversarial networks. At Self Labs, we're building infrastructure that enables users to prove things about themselves without revealing sensitive information — and that’s powerful. But when the data disappears, trust has to come from somewhere else. And what we don’t design, we leave up to chance. This talk will explore: — How we build trust in systems designed to be invisible — Why identity is friction in every blockchain product — What zero-knowledge changes (and doesn’t) — And how to think about identity as infrastructure — not just compliance If you’re engaging with products that touch on AI, Web3, FinTech, or real world experiences — this talk is for you. Join me as we navigate The Fog of War. 📍 See you at Honolulu Tech Week.

Leading decentralized liquidity protocol AAVE (Aave Labs) has deployed its integration of Self, enhancing proof-of-humanity verification without compromising user privacy. Reward campaigns are a powerful way to onboard new entrants to DeFi, but fair distribution is often undermined by individuals creating multiple wallets. By integrating Self’s zk proof-of-humanity (zkPoH) and identity verification solutions, Aave ensures rewards go only to one verified person per wallet, eliminating this risk. Since launching at EthDenver, Self has been adopted by projects including Google Cloud, Para, Velodrome, and Farcaster. Supporting biometric passports from 129 countries and ID cards from 35, Self expands global access to privacy-preserving identity. Through this integration, Aave users supplying USDT and WETH can double their yield by verifying their humanity with Self. The campaign, live first on Celo, is launched in partnership with the Stabila Foundation. “Aave is setting the standard for DeFi risk management with features like borrow and supply caps, and we’re proud to support its growth with ZK proof-of-humanity verification,” said Eric Nakagawa, CEO and co-founder of Self. “Offering enhanced yield to real, verified humans is an exciting application of Self’s capabilities. I'm lucky to work with some incredibly creative indie developers at Self Labs, — people building everything from small side projects to ambitious startups, all using Self to power privacy-preserving identity. While it's always exciting to make noise over our flagship partnerships like Google Cloud and integration partners like Para, shining a light on indie builders is part of our core. These are the dreamers ... experimenting, grinding, iterating fast, and exploring entirely new ways to make the web more human-first. To give these hackers the attention they deserve, we started a Builder Spotlight series where we share their stories: how they got started, what they’re building, and why they chose Self. This week, we just published our 15th spotlight! That’s 15 unique projects, 15 problem-solving journeys, and 15 different ways that developers all over the globe are putting zero-knowledge proofs to work in the real world. If you’re curious about how builders are shaping the future of privacy-preserving identity, grab a cold brew and poke around the blog. The internet today lacks identity verification processes that can both protect users, especially children, from dangerous content and safeguard individuals' data privacy and ownership. Zero-knowledge technology presents a solution: allowing users to confirm their unique attributes (age, nationality, humanity, etc.) without sharing their private information. Self co-founder Rene Reinsberg and Arktouros, LLC's Jane Khodarkovsky wrote an op-ed for The Hill to call broader attention to this global issue and shed light on ZK's power to solve it. Today, we’re proud to share that Google Cloud is integrating with Self’s proof-of-humanity ZKPs to bring new use cases powering AI adoption & Web3 innovation for human users. Through this partnership, Google Cloud will integrate the Self Protocol with new AI search tools in Google Cloud’s Web3 Portal, power sybil resistance for its Testnet Faucet with proof-of-humanity ZKPs, and provide OFAC sanctions-screening proofs for its pioneering Mainnet Faucet. Self uses zero-knowledge proofs (ZKPs) to ensure that no one—not even protocol developers—can access users’ private data. By leveraging zk-SNARKs, users can prove humanity and selectively disclose attributes (like age) without revealing sensitive details (like date of birth). No data is ever stored, making it impossible to leak. Today, Self supports biometric passports from 129 countries and biometric IDs across 27 EU nations, Turkey, Ukraine, Vietnam, Ghana, and Saudi Arabia. “With the proliferation of agentic activity, we’re excited to partner with Self in supporting verified humans across our platform,” says Rich Widmann, Head of Strategy, Web3, Google Cloud. “Self’s technology is seamless and secure, with a team that cares about user protection and privacy, empowering them to disclose only what they want to. We’re excited to explore more opportunities to unlock soon.” “Since launching earlier this year, Self has proven to be superior in technology and accessibility,” says Marek Olszewski, Self Co-Founder. “We are honored that Google chose our SDK to provide secure, privacy-first identity solutions, and to further drive AI and Web3 innovation for real people.” To learn more about the partnership, read the official press release: https://lnkd.in/eTPiwre6 Join Self co-founder Rene Reinsberg and Google Cloud Head of Strategy, Web3, Rich Widmann for an X Space where they’ll discuss their joint vision for applying zk-technology to drive Web3 innovation and AI adoption this Friday, July 25, at 1:30pm ET/10:30am PT: https://lnkd.in/esbJcP2M To verify your identity seamlessly and securely, you can download Self from the iOS and Google Play stores: iOS: https://lnkd.in/eykB6pNi Google Play: https://lnkd.in/eqEtJtDD
