On January 14, the US Senate Health, Education, Labor & Pensions (HELP) Committee will hold a hearing framed as an inquiry into the safety of medication abortion. In reality, this will be an opportunity for anti-abortion Senators and their witnesses to showcase junk science and misleading narratives to undermine access to mifepristone. In an op-ed at Ms. Magazine, experts from Guttmacher, Physicians for Reproductive Health and the EMAA Project break down the shoddy science and misleading narratives we expect at the hearing, including deeply flawed studies that create the illusion of danger and false claims that abortion pills threaten water safety.
