In Ms. Magazine, I write about the extraordinary true story behind the Oscar-shortlisted film Belén, which Equality Now is proud to endorse. The film is a powerful reminder that discriminatory laws and broken systems do not just fail women, they punish them. Belén didn’t know she was pregnant until she miscarried. She woke up from emergency surgery handcuffed to a hospital bed, wrongly accused of abortion, and sentenced to eight years in prison in Argentina. Her case and the feminist legal fight to free her sparked a national movement and helped pave the way for the legalization of abortion in Argentina. In this piece, I reflect on what Belén teaches us: >Why legal reform is not enough without enforcement >How feminist lawyers transform courtrooms into resistance spaces >And why we must stand firm against the global backlash on reproductive rights It’s a huge pleasure to be supporting this film - which is not just shaping culture it will help to shape justice. Congratulations to Ana Correa #DoloresFonzi #LauraParedas #AgustinaSanMartín #NicolásBritos and Prime Video & Amazon MGM Studios for this remarkable film. #Belén #MsMagazine #OscarShortlist #ReproductiveJustice #Film #LegalReform #FeministLawyering #HumanRights #NiUnaMenos #LibertadParaBelén #BelenFilm #CinemaForChange #LatinAmericanCinema #FeministFilm Equality Now América Latina y el Caribe https://lnkd.in/eVc7weqh
