Great talk from Ryan Petersen (CEO Flexport) on AI in logistics. Main points that resonated with me: ▶️ Logistics is a “shockingly manual” industry where most work still lives in unstructured communication channels (email threads, spreadsheets, calls), and AI’s role is to automate that layer rather than forklifts and ships. ▶️ Roughly 10% of total shipping cost is the human labor in freight forwarding – people reading emails, chasing updates, filling forms – and Flexport bets that AI can automate the majority of that work, dropping ocean freight costs by 8–10%. ▶️ Flexport runs sentiment analysis on customer messages; if the model detects that a customer sounds unhappy, it automatically escalates to a manager, so issues get attention before they explode, without managers reading every email. ▶️ Flexport has already automated about 20% of operations work, expects to end the year near 50%, and now believes 90–95% is possible. Most of that is exactly the routine, repetitive communication and follow-up work that used to live in inboxes. ▶️ Ryan argues that the winners will be the firms that deliver the same service with fewer people, and that humans will always find new things to want. He’s not worried about long-term mass unemployment from AI. At Milkyweb, email processing automation is exactly what we’ve been focused on over the last few years. Our goal is to minimize manual inbox work and build an intelligent system that can reliably handle the entire operational workload of a company, not just isolated tasks. If you want to turn your communication chaos into an automation conveyor for your business, DM me and let’s talk.

Logistics is a multi-trillion-dollar industry that quietly powers the entire global economy — and it's shockingly manual. Ryan Petersen, founder & CEO of Flexport, joins the Lightcone to break down how AI is finally touching the physical world: making shipping cheaper, speeding up global trade, and automating work that used to live inside emails, spreadsheets, and phone calls. Milkyweb started as an automation platform for transportation, then evolved into an AI assistant for logistics — automating dispatch and driver-load matching. But that was always just the validation stage — proof that our approach to automation works in the most complex, fast-moving environments. Today, we're unveiling the new Milkyweb — a platform for building AI-driven business automation across any industry. Since the beginning of the LLM boom, we've been integrating modern AI capabilities into every layer of our product: 🔸In platform development — using AI to speed up our own engineering; 🔸In applications built on top of Milkyweb — which allows building apps and automation fast; 🔸In user workflows — where an AI copilot helps users handle everyday tasks. This depth of AI integration allows us to reach a new level of efficiency in building complex products. Under the hood, we've stayed loyal to one guiding principle: semantic technologies. We’re increasingly convinced it’s the foundation of the next generation of AI — systems that actually understand what they’re working with, not just predict text. Now we're making this technology available to anyone who wants to automate their business 👉 https://milkyweb.ai/
