The movies from the #Helsinki #STEAM workshops are ready, thanks to the hard work and creativity of Maryam Khalilzadeh from Tea with Wolf Studio. A lovely person and artist to work with. Three schools spanning all ages contributed with very -very- different takes on space and exploration. Soon online! Europlanet, DPS AAS, Scientix, Ursa Astronomical Association, University of Helsinki, Finnish Meteorological Institute, Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture
Last week, I had the opportunity to lead a stop-motion animation workshop in collaboration with Lecturers Without Borders (LeWiBo) at three schools in #Helsinki : Kannelmäen peruskoulu, Töölön yhteiskoulu, and Otaniemi Lukio. These workshops were part of the @EPSC-DPS Planetary Science Conference 2025 in Helsinki, where scientists visited schools to deliver lectures, and students, inspired by these talks, created their own animations using clay, colored paper, and natural materials. I enjoyed the experience, many thanks to the schools and Lecturers Without Borders (LeWiBo) for making it possible!

I had the privilege of presenting virtually on behalf of Astronomers for Planet Earth (A4E) at the just-concluded Europlanet Science Congress – Division for Planetary Sciences (EPSC-DPS2025) conference, which held from 7th-12th September 2025 in Helsinki, Finland. My talk, co-authored by Laurane Fréour, focused on tackling the climate crisis from the unique perspective of astronomy. I shared how A4E is structured and what drives our work, highlighting how our values align with the principles of open planetary science — especially in sharing knowledge, building community, and creating accessible resources. We also showcased some of our recent projects and milestones, and explored how collaboration amplifies impact. Importantly, we suggested concrete ways for individuals — whether students, astronomers, or institutions — to get involved in addressing the climate crisis through astronomy. Special thanks to Lecturers Without Borders (LeWiBo) for facilitating our participation, particularly Athanasia Nikolaou 🙏. I am also grateful to Laurane Fréour of Astronomers for Planet Earth and the entire A4E community for trusting me with this opportunity and making my participation possible. Together, we continue to show how astronomy can inspire climate action and strengthen our collective efforts toward a sustainable future. 🌍✨ #EPSCDPS2025 #AstronomersForPlanetEarth #ClimateAction #OpenScience #PlanetaryScience #NASRDA #NileUniversityNigeria #PhDCandidate

After discussing Life on Mars with teachers from #Romania, #Bulgaria, #Greece and #Colombia today - Thank you Giovanni Poggiali and Federica Duras, for the contributions and detailed explanations on the recent Mars discovery! - we are ready for this space week. From tomorrow the webinars of "EPSC-DPS Goes Live for schools Helsinki 2025 edition" turn their focus and adapt their language for students 11-18 years old. Ankit Barik, PhD from The Johns Hopkins University will explain how the magnetic field that we take for granted on our planet remains elusive to most of our neighbouring rocky planets. But, hey, what about those gas giants? 🧲 Register below and join a truly magnetic talk tomorrow: https://lnkd.in/dJX4BRzH 🎧 Discover and join *all* the upcoming talks here: https://lnkd.in/d9piyZKX Europlanet University of Helsinki, Finnish Meteorological Institute - Ilmatieteen laitos, Division of Planetary Sciences -American Astronomical Society #AAS, #ursa Astronomical Association, #scientix Oliver Herbort, Elisa Maria Alessi
