Though detention centers are far from Long Beach, they have an impact that reaches us here at home and everywhere in the state. These centers make millions of dollars while immigrants suffer, and this cannot stand. At this year's Encuentro, we joined our Dignity Not Detention partners in Calexico to support local efforts to shut down the Imperial Regional Detention Facility. Though the annual Convergence event has ended, our shared advocacy continues because these centers need to be shut down! We are not free until every one of us is freed. To support another of our coalition's ongoing fights, please join the upcoming ICE Out of Cal City action on July 7! Organizers will be having a press conference and attending the appeal hearing to shut down the CoreCivic center in California City. To join a shuttle heading there in-person, please visit: bit.ly/iceout7726

Through our advocacy with the Immigrants Are LA Coalition, we continue to fight to secure protections for immigrant families in Long Beach and all of LA County. Our families deserve protections that keep them together and housed. Our community needs a permanent rent relief program and protections from rent increases and evictions. Our immigrant seniors need guaranteed basic income. Our community deserves an equitable implementation of immigrant-serving programs. Though our coalition’s priorities were not included in the next fiscal year’s county budget, we will continue to fight as we enter the county budget’s supplemental cycle. By supporting these needs, LA County can lead in standing with immigrants families against the ongoing attacks from ICE. To learn more about Immigrants Are LA, visit: immigrantsarela.com/

Today, our office is closed in observance of Juneteenth. We know that like the immigrant families we work with, Black communities continue to face harm perpetuated by systems that are ingrained into and influence every aspect of our lives, and we also know that Black communities continue to organize for justice. We stand in solidarity with Black communities and encourage you to do the same today and every day.

We make it a point to build community not just with our members and allies, but among our team too! Wellness and community are essential for building and strengthening our movements, so it’s important that we make time to experience joy amidst all of our work. We’re to the great team at Hellbent Silversmith in Long Beach for this ring-making workshop! We’re happy to have been able to support a local business that’s been so supportive of our community.

All people deserve access to food, regardless of immigration status! As the federal government continues targeting undocumented people, California must ensure that its residents can not only survive, but thrive! Our state must remove barriers to and exclusion from all food assistance programs. Now more than ever, it is important that we all take action to remove barriers to food in our communities. Please use the call script linked in our bio to call the Governor and state legislators in support of #Food4All in California! Every listing on this guide is open to anyone, no matter their immigration or income status. Distributions are organized by zip code, to make it easy for you to find a site near you. These distributions are not affiliated with ÓRALE. For questions about them, please use the contact info featured in our post. If you know of additional resources, please let us know. A printable version of this guide is available here: bit.ly/foodresourceslb

We know that the Medi-Cal cuts approved by Governor Newsom will have a great impact on the lives of many families in our community. This is why, during our Health Justice Community Teach-In, many of our members from Long Beach and Wilmington took time to write letters sharing their support for #Health4All and why Medi-Cal cuts will hurt their families and community. For many of us, this is personal. This is jeopardizing our well-being, and it can’t happen. Your story and voice can help show legislators that these cuts aren’t just numbers, they are real harm for real people. Today, we ask you to join us in sending letters to members of the State Assembly voicing your support for rolling back harmful cuts passed last year and rejecting Governor Newsom’s proposed cuts to Medi-Cal. With just a few minutes, you can help stand up for the health of immigrant families. Use this link to send a letter to multiple State Assembly members in just a few clicks: https://lnkd.in/gCH9Kz-X
