🧠 Neuroscience is entering a scaling phase - and data is becoming the constraint. From Neuralink and Merge Labs generating new kinds of neuro data in a new scale, to brain.space - brain data company - limitations start to appear one layer below, in data infrastructure. A good systems-level perspective on why data becomes the bottleneck as neuro data scales 👇
🧠 Neuroscience feels close to an inflection point 🚀 LLMs didn't change because of new ideas - they changed because data and compute crossed a threshold. 🧬 Neuro and bio are on a similar trajectory and the first hard limit is already data. 📊 I'm not a neuroscientist - I've spent my life working on data. In this post, I share what we keep seeing while working with neuroscience teams on the data side - across EEG, DICOM/NIfTI imaging, and large 3D-scans: 1. why standard ETL-first stacks don’t survive contact with neuro data 2. how downloading and materializing datasets kills researcher productivity 3. what treating raw biosignals as queryable, metadata-indexed objects unlocks This is a data systems perspective, not a neuroscience take. 💥 Sometimes, two projects start worlds apart - only to realize they were building the same vision from opposite ends. When we started DVC, our goal was simple: bring version control discipline to data. The same way Git transformed software. From Dmitry Petrov and Ivan Shcheklein first conversations with lakeFS founder Dr. Einat Orr, it was clear the companies shared the same mission, just focused on different scales. So today, we’re excited to share that DVC is joining lakeFS! This isn’t an ending. It’s the natural next step in our shared journey. Together, DVC and lakeFS form one continuous path: from the first ML experiment → to production-scale AI pipelines. To everyone who’s contributed, tested, and shared DVC: thank you. You made this possible. 🙏 Read the full story → https://lnkd.in/gPBpY464 For question on the transition head to → https://lnkd.in/gphSXx4a #OpenSource #MLOps #DataVersionControl #AI
