My coach would say, "Working hard is a given. You need to be desperate." Those words are the foundation of my professional mindset. Remaining committed to the basics and fundamentals, even in extreme conditions, supports safety and quality in modern manufacturing. I tackle difficult challenges with "desperation," which helps me earn the trust of those around me and keeps me growing. Today, I leverage this perspective by bringing together internal and external partners to deliver significant results.

In this series, they share what they were most passionate about during their student days—and how those experiences are shaping the work they do today. 🔍 ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ I practiced with the goal of becoming a professional baseball player from the age of three, and after living in a team dormitory at a competitive school, I made it to the nationals. The grit and resilience I developed by competing against top players from across the country, and the respect and consideration I learned through communal life, are my greatest strengths. Leveraging these character traits and my communication skills, I now lead a team as a site manager. I value connections and work to build a strong workforce that tackles difficult challenges together as one team.

When a defect in the existing equipment prevented proper assembly, it was decided that repairing the system itself would be too costly. Instead, by rethinking the design of the added component, we achieved a fast, cost-effective solution. This approach to problem-solving continues to guide my work today, where I handle mass-production maintenance design for commercial aircraft engines and address manufacturing challenges under constraints.

By collaborating with peers, seniors, and local companies and organizations, we brought a project to life from scratch. Through this experience, I learned that co-creation can produce outcomes that would be impossible alone. Today, I leverage this perspective by bringing together internal and external partners to deliver significant results.

Delivering a speech to an audience of 30 overseas became the foundation of my confidence. Now, I leverage my language and communication skills to negotiate with international manufacturers and coordinate across multiple internal departments. From my first year, I've stepped up to take on new tasks and facilitate meetings during overseas business trips, treating challenges as opportunities for growth.

As the team's captain, I led the team through disagreements and challenges, bringing us together as one. This mindset of taking the team seriously shaped the foundation for my work today. I foster a positive atmosphere and smooth collaboration within and beyond the factory, building a workforce that can overcome any challenge with a positive attitude.

Meet Tsutomu Murakami, Vice President, Aero-Engine, Space & Defense Business Area, and discover what he devoted himself to as a student. 🎾 ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ During my student years, I took part in the Birdman Rally, taking on the challenge of building a lightweight yet robust aircraft from composite materials. In addition to designing the aircraft, I built the tools myself through trial and error. This experience was a key strength during the PW1100G-JM engine composite materials development project. Beyond simple knowledge, the process of finding solutions through hands-on experimentation and the joy of building something together as a team are the motivations that drive state-of-the-art technology development.

Meet Atsushi Sato, President, Aero-Engine, Space & Defense Business Area, and discover what he devoted himself to as a student. 🎾 ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Motivated by a desire to build something that supports society behind the scenes, I chose to pursue aircraft engine development. Over three decades, I have worked on both defense and commercial projects. Tennis, which I've continued playing since middle school, has supported my career. Regular play helps me maintain physical fitness comparable to what it was in my early thirties, allowing me to sustain a youthful mindset and an active lifestyle. Tennis has also fostered strong relationships with colleagues, contributing to mental and physical health and to smooth teamwork.
