💡 Guidance on Overcurrent Protection of SPDs (DNO fuse) Following the recent joint statement from BEAMA and ENA, we’re back with our Technical Training Managers to break down exactly what this means for surge protection in domestic installations. 📃The BEAMA/ENA statement confirms that OCPD2 may be omitted and the DNO fuse can be relied upon for short‑circuit protection, but only when specific conditions are met, including: 🔵The SPD being installed in a household or similar installation. 🔵 The SPD being housed either in a single‑phase consumer unit conforming to BS EN 61439‑3 or an enclosure with a switch‑disconnector conforming to BS EN 60947‑3. 🔵The equipment having a 16 kA rated conditional short‑circuit current verified with a 100 A BS 88‑3/BS 1361 fuse. 🔵 The SPD manufacturer’s instructions clearly stating that OCPD2 may be omitted and specifying the required characteristics for OCPD1. In this follow‑up video, we take a closer look at the updated guidance on using the DNO cut‑out fuse as the overcurrent protective device (OCPD) for SPDs, a topic that has generated a lot of industry conversation. If you’re looking for clarity, practical guidance, and a better understanding, this video has you covered. 👀 Watch now and stay informed.

🚨 Customer Update: Guidance on Overcurrent Protection of SPDs in Relation to DNO Fuses 🚨 There has been increasing industry focus on how Surge Protection Devices (SPDs) should be protected against overcurrent when installed in conjunction with Distribution Network Operator (DNO) service cut-out fuses. To support clarity and consistency across the sector, BEAMA and the Energy Networks Association (ENA) have released a joint statement.

🚨 Customer Update: BS 7671:2018 + Amendment 4 (2026) 🚨 The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and BSI have formally confirmed Amendment 4 (2026) to BS 7671:2018 (18th Edition Wiring Regulations). This update introduces several important changes that all electrical contractors, designers and specifiers should be aware of as we move toward its publication. What’s changing in Amendment 4? Amendment 4 includes several significant additions and revisions, such as: - A completely new chapter on Stationary Secondary Batteries, supporting electrical storage and supply of electrical installations: a major step forward for renewable integration. - A new section covering functional earthing and functional equipotential bonding for ICT equipment and systems. - A new section on Power over Ethernet (PoE) - A major revision to Section 710 (Medical Locations), including new requirements for recording resistance of supplementary protective equipotential bonding conductors. - Integration of Amendment 3:2024 and continued alignment with CENELEC HD and IEC standards. When will this take effect? - Publication date: 15 April 2026. Amendment 4 may be used immediately upon publication. - Withdrawal of current edition: Six months after publication (BS 7671:2018+A2:2022+A3:2024 will be withdrawn). Once released, Amendment 4 becomes the UK national standard for: - All new low voltage‑ electrical installations - Additions and alterations to existing installations - Periodic inspection and testing of existing installations What this means for you This is a significant update to the Wiring Regulations, particularly around: - Battery energy storage - ICT related‑ earthing and bonding - PoE enabled‑ installations - Medical and healthcare environments These changes continue to support the UK’s transition toward electrification, renewables, and net ‑zero ambitions. We’re pleased to announce that Hager has reached CDP Climate Change “A-” (Leadership) in 2025 - achieving one of the highest levels in CDP’s assessment and our second consecutive year of improvement. This recognition reflects robust data and reporting, a climate transition plan embedded in our strategy, and the continued work of teams across the Group to reduce our environmental impact and help customers do the same. As Matthieu Alexandropoulos, Corporate Social Responsibility Senior Director, puts it: “Moving from ambition to impact means enabling the energy transition at scale. Our CDP ‘A-‘ rating confirms that our climate action, governance and innovation provide the foundation to do exactly that.” Congratulations and thank you to everyone involved - especially those helping turn commitments into action every day.
