We back founders with the courage to build before success is obvious. We move fast, commit early and stand with founders

About us

At Felicis, we back founders with the courage to build before success is obvious. Felicis means “fortunate” and while there’s a tremendous amount of luck involved in building a market-defining company, we believe luck is something you engineer through courage, imagination, and decisive action. In the early days, founders need a trusted partner who shares their conviction (ahead of traction or validation) and can give them exactly what they need to accelerate their growth curve. We move fast and commit early. We always vote our shares alongside founders. Beyond capital, we invest 1% on top of every first check to support founders’ performance. Since our founding in 2006, we’ve raised 10 funds and have more than $3.9B AUM. Felicis-backed founders have built 50+ $1B+ companies, achieved 125+ exits, and generated $220B+ in market value, including Shopify, Adyen, Credit Karma, Cruise, Twitch, Plaid, Ginkgo Bioworks, Guardant Health, Meraki, and Ring. Active portfolio includes Canva, Crusoe, LMArena, Mercor, n8n, Notion, poolside, Runway, Revel, Skild AI, Supabase, Tines, and Semgrep.

Revel just announced their $150M Series B and we couldn’t be more proud to have backed Scott Morton and the Revel team from the seed! When we first met Scott, what stood out was both his experience leading software engineering for SpaceX ’s Starship, and even more importantly, his conviction that the rest of the industrial world deserved modern software. For decades, complex hardware systems (like rockets, propulsion, energy, advanced manufacturing) have been run on tools that predate the internet. Meanwhile, software has transformed every other industry. Scott saw that gap firsthand and he decided to build the system he wished he had. Revel is creating the modern software layer for running hardware that helps companies test faster, operate safer, and ship sooner. When you’re deploying rocket engines or managing nuclear reactors, it’s all about precision, reliability, and control at the highest stakes. Congratulations to Scott and the entire Revel team on this milestone, and welcome to Index Ventures and Redpoint. We’re excited for what’s ahead !!

Today we announced our $150M Series B led by Index Ventures, with major participation from Redpoint and returning investors including Thrive Capital, Felicis, and Abstract. Across industries like aerospace, energy, and advanced manufacturing, engineering teams are pushing the limits of what’s possible. But the software infrastructure behind many of these systems hasn’t kept pace. Revel is building the modern platform for testing and controlling mission-critical hardware, helping teams move faster, operate more safely, and scale complex systems with confidence. This funding allows us to expand the platform, grow the team, and bring modern infrastructure to the industries that power the real world. We’re hiring across engineering, product, and GTM. If you’re interested in working on foundational infrastructure to power multiple consequential missions across different industries, we’d love to meet you. You can read more about what we’re building here at Revel in The New York Times: https://lnkd.in/egT_TP-C

In my chat about building and investing in AI companies with Canva 's co-founder and host of Prompted, Cameron Adams, we covered a few themes I think matter right now: • The most valuable insights are still inside people’s heads. Long-term advantage comes from understanding how users think, not just what they ask for. • Many of the most interesting startups aren’t chasing new problems. They’re revisiting old ones with new capabilities. • As models improve and access broadens, differentiation will come from workflow depth, insight, and taste. 🎧 Listen to the full episode here: ordnl.link/fpKlZCP

Congrats Producer.ai on their acquisition by Google Labs & Google DeepMind! I remember reaching out to Seth during their fundraise after hearing whispers that he was working on something in AI music. After seeing Runway revolutionize video, we at Felicis felt that music would be next. His energy and passion for building a tool to empower music creators came from his own love of music (Producer execs double as band members). Seth Forsgren, hayk martiros, and the rest of the team worked tirelessly to create a fun and powerful music creation platform. It's been great partnering with Nabeel Hyatt, Spark Capital, South Park Commons, and others on this one. Looking forward to seeing Producer scale globally with the help of Google! https://lnkd.in/gy3fZ5B7

(TLDR: I’m going in-house at Felicis to build in venture again. AI makes it a great time for multiple reasons) New AI tools both (1) lower the cost of developing a firm informational and decision operating system and (2) unlock new capabilities to aid with fuzzy pattern matching in deal clusters, decisions to leverage existing partner expertise. You can build a bespoke data platform, custom implementation, and closed-loop information/decision product within a firm, complete with customer-driven development and iteration. And with the explosion of new companies on top of the new tech capability of transformer-based models, the variety of companies will explode. Quicker, quality decisions are even more important.

Welcome 🤓 Ben Mathes, our new Head of AI at Felicis! 🤖🦾 Ben now leads one of our top strategic imperatives: building AI systems deep into how we operate and invest. At Felicis, Ben will build an AI “exoskeleton” for venture that uses frontier models to supercharge the investing team’s sourcing, research, and decision-making. Think context-aware research that helps us invest, scenario planning to anticipate strategic shifts, inform our investments, and guide our portfolio companies through them, coding agents that surface the top 1% of talent early, and custom workflows that feel like magic. Ben brings a rare mix of product taste and engineering depth to his work. He’s spent his career building tools that solve root problems rather than just stringing together existing APIs. He’s also a builder agnostic to stage and industry: He’s designed automated deal closings at AngelList, developed intelligence products for investment teams at Greylock and Thiel Capital, and most recently, spent six years at Google leading the development of their internal AI supply chain tracking, monitoring, and measuring. Welcome to Felicis, Ben! 🧡 We are excited to build with you.

  • We’re thrilled to announce that Eric Flaningam has been promoted to Partner at Felicis! Eric’s journey is a reflection of our belief in imagination and curiosity. He gravitates toward complex spaces others overlook, and does the work to truly understand them. He initially joined Felicis as a researcher, where his analytical rigor quickly translated into identifying standout early stage companies. Eric has helped Felicis invest across healthcare, energy, AI, and enterprise software, including Assort Health, Evertune AI, Radiant, Agency, and several stealth companies we’re excited to share more about soon. Beyond investing, Eric is a thoughtful voice on where technology is headed and an active builder of founder and builder communities. (Check out his substack: Generative Value.) His new role as a Partner on the investing team reflects the depth of his judgment, impact, and commitment to founders. 🧡 ordnl.link/y7QCpBt

We’re excited to share that James Detweiler has been promoted to General Partner at Felicis! 🧡 James is thesis-driven, founder-first, and unafraid to challenge convention. He is unique in his ability to see around corners and believe in transformative technology before consensus. He has an exceptional ability to identify and earn the trust of founders and a strong investing track record across AI, robotics, vertical software, and defense. An example: His early conviction around robotics foundation models led to Felicis investing in the Skild AI Series A. James has helped bring companies like Mercor, Paraform, DeepJudge, Ricursive Intelligence, and Operand into the Felicis family. Beyond the results, James shows up with infectious energy, generosity, and optimism. He lifts the entire team and goes all in for founders every step of the way. We’re proud to recognize his impact and excited for what’s ahead! ordnl.link/yFDDZZE

  • When it comes to progress, how we make things is just as important as what we make. The assembly line reshaped the world as much as the cars that replaced horse-drawn carriages did. Right now, the way we make software is changing. Software engineers now orchestrate while agents program. It’s time for an entirely new process to match. Entire is building the next developer platform for an era of human and AI agent collaboration, the assembly line for this moment. Rather than retrofitting agents into yesterday’s development process, Entire is reimagining software creation from the ground up, purpose-built for people collaborating and creating with agents. We’re thrilled to support Thomas Dohmke and the Entire team as they launch and set out to build on this mission.

When I first met Thomas Dohmke, I was blown away by his vision. He’s someone who deeply understands the modern development process. As CEO at GitHub, he steered the company through its AI awakening and scaled the platform to more than 150M developers worldwide. But he was also able to see clearly how that same industry now needed to completely reinvent itself. I am so energized by his conviction and insight. We at Felicis are thrilled to lead Entire's seed as they set out to build the next developer platform for the era of AI agent and human collaboration. The time is now to begin the next developer platform shift !! 🚀🤖
