Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida recently joined representatives from Feeding Florida, sister food banks and Florida growers in Tallahassee to share the incredible impact of the Farmers Feeding Florida program. This year, the program expanded produce recovery and extended into Florida-produced protein commodities— including dairy, beef, seafood, eggs, and peanut butter—strengthening farm enterprises and boosting nutritious food access across the state and here in Central Florida. Throughout the week, the team met with Florida Senate President Ben Albritton, Senator Jason Brodeur, Florida House Speaker Daniel Perez, Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services and others to discuss how this partnership supports Florida agriculture and nourishes kids, families, and seniors facing hunger.

About us
SHFBCF is a member of Feeding America – the largest charitable domestic hunger-relief organization in the United States. SHFBCF secures and distributes food and grocery products to more than 870 local nonprofit feeding partners throughout Central Florida. With the help of food and financial donors, volunteers and a caring, committed community, the food bank distributes 300,000 meals every day to a seven-county service area, which includes Brevard, Lake, Marion, Orange, Osceola, Seminole and Volusia. Feeding neighbors facing hunger is only the beginning. By investing in job training programs, advocating for access to nutritious foods, and inspiring our community to get involved, SHFBCF is leaning into the root causes of hunger and helping our neighbors thrive. With support from the Central Florida community, Second Harvest Food Bank is feeding inspiration, change, achievement, health — and families facing hunger.

Volunteers from Gilbane Building try to fill a shift at the main distribution center several times a year, but their most recent time was even more special. ♥️ In addition to the group sorting more than 10,000 pounds of meat donated by local grocers, they also donated enough to provide 100,000 MEALS for neighbors facing hunger. Gilbane says they are #BuildingMoreThanBuildings! feedhopenow.org 🍏

Root for our home team with us because every time they score a point, Suncoast Credit Union adds money to the donation bucket – and Second Harvest Food Bank is in the running to score a portion of it. 🏀 Your votes determine how much of the donation bucket will help provide essential meals to kids, families, and seniors in Central Florida. For Dave, Sandy, and their son John, volunteering is something they do together as a family. 🍏 “I was surprised by the need,” Dave recalls from his first food bank volunteer experience in Northern Illinois. “I didn’t see it in my everyday life, but it was out there.” After moving to Florida to be near relatives, one of the first things they did was find the local food bank and start volunteering three days a week. ➡️Read more about this Brevard County family: https://lnkd.in/en8_kr5P

Food and fund drives are another way everyone in the community can help fight hunger. 🍏 JoAnna's cereal drive provided 130 boxes of cereal for local families facing hunger! Then, she and her family stayed to volunteer sorting food. 🥣 Thanks for feeding hope, JoAnna! 👏 ➡️Start your own food and fund drive today: https://lnkd.in/es9qEYhv
