We recently kicked off the PROtein Sequencing (PROSE) program, with the goal of creating microsystems capable of directly reading complex, new, and unknown proteins – something that today's technologies are not well-equipped for. Rather than inferring protein identity from bulk lab measurements, PROSE is building hardware from the ground up that’s designed to measure molecular signals and translate them into usable information. About us
The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) is an independent research and development agency of the U.S. Department of War (DoW), whose mission is to create and prevent technological surprise for national security. Working with innovators inside and outside government, we have delivered on our mission many times over – transforming the seemingly impossible into world-changing defense and national security capabilities. Unlike other agencies, DARPA is not satisfied with incremental advances. We push transformational breakthroughs – innovations that not only solve current challenges but also establish the U.S. as the leading driver of strategic technological invention. We’ve created game-changing military capabilities – precision weapons, stealth technology, nerve implants that return sensation to warriors who have lost limbs, and more – that stand as a marvel to militaries around the globe. Our innovations have also transformed civilian society, leading to the internet as we know it today, automated voice recognition and language translation, GPS receivers small enough to fit in consumer devices, and early investments in mRNA vaccine technology. We do this by fueling an innovation ecosystem that engages academic, industry, and government partners. By fostering a nurturing environment, we empower diverse collaborators to succeed faster. What comes next is limited only by the imagination.

🚙 Learn more about game-changing off-road autonomy: https://lnkd.in/eGuVzYCZ
Scaling Autonomy from Movement to Strategy Using the analogy of a football coach calling a play, Stuart Young, Program Manager, Tactical Technology Office, Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA)explains how DARPA is scaling autonomy from simple movement to strategic maneuver, allowing a single operator to command a platoon at a "higher level of abstraction" to achieve operational effectiveness. #RoadToAutonomy #Defense #DARPA

What better place to showcase aviation history in the making than at the world's largest and oldest military aviation museum! ✈️💪 We’re excited to share that the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force, located at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio, will host the DARPA Lift Challenge this August. We’re inviting the public to watch Challenge competitors demonstrate small drones lifting more weight than previously thought possible. And we’re co-locating with Flite Fest, a popular radio-control aviation event for all ages. More info: https://lnkd.in/eCkd83uF Don’t want to miss any Challenge news? We are making serious progress on our LongShot program. 💯 Thanks to support from our government and industry partners, we successfully completed several technical milestones, moving the program – recently designated the X-68A – closer to flight testing. The uninhabited LongShot aircraft are designed to change air combat operations by extending the reach and mission effectiveness of traditional manned aircraft – fighter jets, bombers, and mobility aircraft. On the modern battlefield, our defenses against chemical threats are reactive. We rely on cumbersome protective gear and medicines that only treat symptoms after our warfighters have been exposed, leaving them vulnerable. Our Protean program is developing a prophylactic medicine to be taken before exposure, making chemical agents harmless. And we need your help to do it. 👏 SBIR Success Story 👏 One of our first ever SBIR XL grant recipients, Aquagga Inc., recently completed a large-scale "forever chemical" (PFAS) destruction demonstration. The results showed safe, effective performance in challenging conditions, which is a big step forward toward scalable solutions for cleaner water and soil in the near future. We are funding the future, so if you are a small business with transformative ideas interested in working with us, please visit: https://lnkd.in/ewQHpva8

Today, critical mineral mining is like buying a jigsaw puzzle for one piece and throwing the rest away. Our new program, Smash, aims to keep all the pieces on the table by processing multiple critical minerals at once, so we can appreciate the full picture - the complete periodic table. Want to help us put the puzzle together? Join us in person at the Smash Proposers Day on Feb. 24: https://lnkd.in/eebXdceK
