About us

The Australasian Menopause Society (AMS) is a member-based organisation with the aim of increasing knowledge about the menopause. There are over 2 million post-menopausal women in Australia and another 80,000 join this group every year. The majority of these women will experience menopausal symptoms of some form or another which will persist for four to eight years and some into their seventies. Now that women live around one third of their lives in the post-menopausal state, optimizing physical and mental health during this period is becoming more important. The need to understand the various problems of the menopause, and their management is a major issue for doctors, politicians, health care workers and the community. It is hoped the AMS will help bring together these people to participate in communication and scientific discussions for the advancement of knowledge about the menopause. All those with an interest in the menopause are encouraged to join the Society; and to participate and assist in the achievement of its aims.
