Happy birthday to arXiv! 🥳 🎂 On August 14, 1991, the very first paper was submitted to arXiv. That's 34 years of sharing research quickly, freely, and openly, all across the world! It's been a wild ride and we are so thankful to the scientific community for supporting us through all the years and the growing pains. Some baby pictures to show how far we've come. 👶 💾 It's hard to believe arXiv was once just a computer humming away quietly under a desk - today we're a team of 28 people, with over 100 volunteer moderators, and we receive over 20,000 new submissions a month! Consider giving a birthday gift to arXiv today - your gift supports #openscience and #arXiv for many birthdays to come. 🎁 https://lnkd.in/enrFVEZD

Thank you to the European Astronomical Society for awarding arXiv the prestigious Jocelyn Bell Burnell Inspiration Medal! The Jocelyn Bell Burnell Inspiration Medal is awarded biennially to recognize astronomers whose contributions to the field have gone beyond scientific research. Usually awarded to individual astronomers, arXiv is the first organization to receive this very great honor: https://lnkd.in/gpUcT7Ay The JBB Inspiration Medal was awarded to arXiv "for its impact on astrophysical research thanks to the open, free, and world-wide distribution of scientific articles." The European Astronomical Society awarded its 2025 Prizes at its annual meeting in Cork, Ireland in June. Licia Verde and Ralph Wijers traveled to Cork to accept the award on arXiv's behalf. Licia and Ralph have given their time and talents over the years to arXiv in an advisory capacity, and currently sit as the chairs of the arXiv Science Advisory Committee and Editorial Advisory Committee, respectively. Thank you to the European Astronomical Society from all the arXiv staff and volunteers! We are so pleased and honored to have received this award. Audio summaries are coming to arXiv! We've partnered with ScienceCast on a pilot project to bring 60-second AI-generated audio summaries to arxiv.org. This follows arXiv's effort to make our scientific content even more broadly available to by supporting additional features and formats beyond PDF, starting with #HTML versions of recent papers, which we began rolling out at the end of 2024. ScienceCast has been an arXiv Lab since 2022, and their AI-driven platform allows authors to create audio and visual enhancements for their scientific papers. This pilot project is currently limited to a small subset of arXiv papers in High Energy Astrophysics, but we hope to expand the pilot to more categories as it progresses. Your support of arXiv makes a world of a difference for #openaccess research and scientific progress. Thank you to Hugging Face for an awesome match today - they've been powering up your donations all day in the name of #openscience and ML research! There's still plenty of time to give: 🤗 https://lnkd.in/gyCBCjsu

This Thursday, support the future of #openscience with arXiv and Hugging Face! March 13th is Cornell Giving Day - a day to join together and give to the causes you care about. And this Cornell Giving Day, our friends at Hugging Face are making sure your donations make an even bigger impact. Hugging Face has pledged a $20,000 match to arXiv for #GivingDay, matching your donations 2:1. That means, when you give arXiv $10, Hugging Face will match it with $20 - basically tripling your donation! You give arXiv $1? Hugging Face gives $2! You give arXiv $1,000? Hugging Face gives $2,000! arXiv is a not-for-profit repository built for researchers, by researchers. Since 1991, arXiv has always been open and free to use, whether you're submitting new research, or reading one of the 2.5 million articles in our corpus. But we rely on you - your donations to arXiv really make a difference. Over 60% of arXiv's operating budget comes from the universities, libraries, research labs and researchers who use arXiv every day! Big or small, whatever you give, it all counts. If #open and #accessible science is important to you, give to arXiv this Giving Day. Thank you to Hugging Face and all the researchers who use and support arXiv. Save the date: at 12AM on Thursday, March 13th, this link will go live and you can give to arXiv in support of open science: https://lnkd.in/gyCBCjsu

#GivingTuesday is still in full swing! Consider donating to arXiv today to support our work in fostering scientific discovery, accessible science, and equitable access to research. Why support arXiv? The numbers don't lie. We are thankful for the support from our scientific community, authors, readers, and members, but our team is small & arXiv is growing. We need your help to keep arXiv stable, sustainable, and open as more and more researchers use arXiv to discover new, relevant science in their fields and share their work. There are several hours left to show how thankful you are for arXiv - take this time to give to arXiv, #openscience and #openaccess this #GivingTuesday! Donate here: https://lnkd.in/gZ_kYavA

Today is arXiv's first #GivingTuesday! The first Tuesday after Thanksgiving is a time where we are asked to reflect on all we have accomplished in the past year as we move more fully into the holiday season, as well as express gratitude for those who helped us along the way. arXiv is so grateful to be a part of such a generous community that has helped us grow since our founding in 1991. arXiv now hosts over 2.5 million scientific articles, and our small team handles, on average, more than 18,000 submissions a month (with many months topping out at over 20,000 submissions!) At arXiv, we take our role as an pioneer and advocate of #openscience seriously. When we talk to researchers across the globe, some of whom tell us arXiv was one of their only ways to access the science they needed to do their work or complete their studies, we believe even more firmly that free and open access to scientific research is more important than ever. This #GivingTuesday, donate today to support arXiv's mission of keeping access to science open and free for all. Give here: https://lnkd.in/eQ4cF7Fa
