One of the key challenges in building robots for household or industrial settings is the need to master the control of high-degree-of-freedom systems such as mobile manipulators. In their work "SLAC: Simulation-Pretrained Latent Action Space for Whole-Body Real-World RL" (https://lnkd.in/emupadkB), Jiaheng Hu, Peter Stone and Roberto Martín-Martín introduce a method that renders real-world reinforcement learning feasible for complex embodiments. We caught up with Jiaheng to find out more. https://lnkd.in/eRQkG9zE

Each year, a small group of PhD students are chosen to participate in the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI)/ SIGAI Doctoral Consortium. This initiative provides an opportunity for the students to discuss and explore their research interests and career objectives in an interdisciplinary workshop together with a panel of established researchers. During 2025, we met with some of the students to find out more about their research and the doctoral consortium experience. Here, we collate the interviews. Thanks to the following researchers for taking part! Kunpeng Xu, Kayla Boggess, Tunazzina Islam, Lea Demelius, Joseph Marvin Imperial, Amina Mević, Onur Boyar, Ananya Joshi, Filippos Gouidis, Debalina Padariya, Amar Halilovic, Mahammed Kamruzzaman, Kate Candon, Aneesh Komanduri, Shirley Shajarian, Flávia Carvalhido, Haimin Hu, Benyamin Tabarsi, Yezi Liu, Zahra Ghorrati, Janice Zebaze https://lnkd.in/e6mP3piK
