Cultivate KC and partners are excited to offer two advocacy training sessions in February. This is your opportunity to learn about effective strategies for talking with lawmakers, and to spend some time practicing your advocacy ‘pitch’ while receiving pointers from the lawmakers themselves on how to be the best advocate you can be for local food and farmers. This series is hosted in partnership by Cultivate KC, Ivanhoe Neighborhood Council, The Food Circle, The Giving Grove, Urban Produce Push, and The KC Farm School. It is funded in part by the National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition. Learn more and register: https://lnkd.in/gz5YuD2h

Cultivate KC reposted this
I am so grateful for the chance to moderate a powerful keynote conversation at Cultivate KC's Annual Farmers & Friends Meeting last Saturday with more than 200 farmers and friends gathered around a shared commitment to Growing in Community. Here are 3 gems from the panel: 1. What we pay attention to grows. That truth showed up again and again in our conversation about food, power building, and community organizing. 2. It is easy to start this work alone, but it can't be sustained alone. Mutual aid and relationships matter. We can always do more together than we can on our own. 3. A resilient food system has to include transportation, housing, health, and storytelling. Huge appreciation to this incredible panel for grounding these ideas in lived experience: Staroyce Nealy, Exec Director of Global One Urban Farming; Ryan A. Sorrell, Founder of The Kansas City Defender; Raymond Forstater, Sunrise Movement KC; and Thomas S., KC Food Hub and KC Tenants. This is what community looks like in practice: a room full of people leaning in, a compost giveaway on the way out, a breakfast potluck of homemade pies. Kansas City continues to show what is possible when we invest in relationships and build power together.
