We keep beating the data sovereignty drum because of how important it is to any organization that is serious about managing their data. As clearly as we spell it out with posts like this - https://lnkd.in/ee9vXWEe, Google consistently reminds the world how important your data is (https://lnkd.in/etiDsqpC) by settling yet another lawsuit for a cool $135 million. For big tech, that's just the cost of doing business. Your data is THAT important.

We've not yet finished updating the monthly CiviCRM snapshot at https://lnkd.in/eUB4jDjy but one metric that is current and that is amazing is the growth in CiviCRM's install base: 14,349 known installs! This is the highest on record since recording pingbacks and is up over 25% since one year ago. 🎉 3 Factors that are contributing to CiviCRM's growth: 1. Product improvements - CiviCRM has changed a lot in the last 5 years and is, at present, the best it's ever been. SearchKit and FormBuilder are mature, stable and increasingly important throughout the system. The River framework as ushered in a refreshing UI and helped lay the groundwork for accessibility improvements. And the extension ecosystem has exploded offering more sophisticated functionality, deeper integrations and entirely new capabilities. 2. Easier onboarding - CiviCRM Spark https://lnkd.in/eRX2bDcn has taken much of the legwork out of administering CiviCRM, making it easy for nonprofits to get started with CiviCRM, or with a CRM in general, for the first time super easy. It's one year growth rate is up over 76%! 3. Market trends - thanks in large part to Big Tech's own actions, companies and countries for that matter are re-thinking their tech strategy, and are placing increasing value on data sovereignty and full control over polish and convenience. Open source is a natural fit for anybody serious about owning their technology and controlling their technical destiny! Almost certainly there are many more factors contributing to CiviCRM's growth, too many to mention in detail here. Regardless, we're making huge strides and growing beyond our typical markets. Interest coming out of Western Europe, Canada, Australia... really all over the world... is up and continuing to grow. Special thanks to our amazing community of contributors, partners and members that support CiviCRM and help make it the #1 open source CRM for nonprofits worldwide! #civicrm #TechForGood #NonprofitTech #OpenSource #OpenSourceForNonprofits

Let's talk CiviCRM financials. Not all of the metrics in our monthly project snapshot are good. The glaring issue is currently our budget shortfall for the past 12 months; we're $29k off the mark. https://lnkd.in/eqB2mZfy What makes any budget shortfall especially bad is that, like many open source projects, CiviCRM relies on an underpaid team to maintain and improve the software. The primary implication of operating at a loss is that it shifts Core Team priorities from continuously improving the product to focusing exclusively on sustaining the project. This typically means scaling down capacity and development efforts, risking overall product stagnation. Nobody benefits from that. In general, CiviCRM's financials actually look quite good, with growth across a number of areas. However, there is one gap in our approach that we're working to close: community support needs to grow dramatically, specifically direct support from end user organizations. Of the 13,246 known CiviCRM installations out there, only 24 support the project as members. That's .2% of our user base. If we could push that number to 1% of our user base, just 1%, at the very lowest membership level, our funding gap would be closed. Our focus for 2026 is clear; grow the number of CiviCRM members and increase end user participation in the support of the project. If you've read enough and are ready to become a member, visit https://lnkd.in/eNM3hy-e Ending this on a positive note... it's amazing what CiviCRM does on such a small budget! No investors, no venture capital, no loans... completely independently funded. CiviCRM is the #1 open source CRM for nonprofits worldwide and competitive with the largest CRM companies in the world!
