Off Syllabus with Manny Rodriguez Rivera is a series at Center for Innovation in Teaching & Learning (CITL), University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where we explore together the parts of teaching that do not make it to the syllabus. These are lessons faculty uncover through experience, reflection, and sometimes just surviving the week. This podcast series is about the discoveries we make as faculty: what actually works in the classroom, how students learn and what they need from us, how we support them while still protecting our own well-being, and how we grow into the educators we never knew we could be. The goal of this podcast series is to uncover the lessons that shape our teaching, our students, and ourselves the ones we learn through experience. ✨ Workshop: Teaching Case Study — ChatGPT and Beyond: Exploring AI in Advertising I’m excited to share an upcoming workshop hosted by the Center for Innovation in Teaching & Learning (CITL), University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign on Thursday, February 12, 2026, from 10:00–11:00 AM (Armory Room 172 + Zoom). In this session, I’ll share a teaching case study from the AI and Advertising course I taught in Spring 2024 and Spring 2025, exploring how generative AI tools can be integrated into advertising education while centering ethics, brand trust, and responsible innovation. I’ll walk through course design, assignments, industry engagement, and student feedback from two years of teaching the course—offering practical insights for anyone teaching at the intersection of creativity, technology, and communication. This workshop is ideal for instructors interested in generative AI, digital content education, pedagogy, and curriculum innovation. Many CITL workshops also count toward teaching certificates, so it’s a great opportunity for professional development. 👉 Register and join us: https://lnkd.in/gJ8FBta9
