STL was never intended for production parts. Inefficient and lacking of any metadata, even units... Every 3D Printed Part should Start with a 3MF
About us
The 3MF Consortium defines and supports an industry-leading file format for additive manufacturing, that allows design applications to send full-fidelity 3D models to a mix of applications, platforms, services, and printers. The 3MF format eliminates the issues with other available 3D model formats and brings to life almost unlimited potential in color, texture, size, dimension, and traceability. 3MF Consortium members include a broad representation of the 3D printing value chain from CAD tools suppliers to equipment manufacturers to software developers to OEMs. Use 3MF to make your additive manufacturing workflow more reliable and productive. You don’t need to be a member to use 3MF - it’s free! Download the 3MF file format specification and get started today! https://3mf.io/specification/

The 3MF Editor v1.0.0 is now available on GitHub. This open-source tool lets developers and engineers inspect, edit, and validate 3MF files directly, without relying on what downstream applications do or don't expose. The initial release includes a tree view of the OPC package structure, XML editing with standard controls, multi-level schema and structure validation, and a beta CLI for automated validation workflows. If you've ever needed to debug a 3MF file and wished you could just look inside it, this is the tool. Available now: https://lnkd.in/eWbcX6pF Bug reports and contributions welcome.

Communicating complex geometry to 3D print via mesh makes no sense. With spherene's adoption of the volumetric/implict specification, you can now communicate their ADMS structures directly to further 3D model, or 3D print with no discretisation. We welcome Sphere to the 3MF consortium to continue to make the design and manufacture of the highest performing metamaterials at scale.

3MF Consortium is proud to support CDFAM - Computational Design Symposium Barcelona, April 8-9, 2026. CDFAM brings together engineers, architects, and software developers working at the intersection of computational design, simulation, and advanced manufacturing. The Barcelona program covers AI and machine learning for engineering, data infrastructure, computational design for architecture and built systems, and the full chain from systems engineering down to part and material design. If your work touches additive manufacturing, the conversations at CDFAM are directly relevant. The program spans design for AM, simulation-driven design, computational fabrication, and the data workflows that connect them - with speakers from organizations including Nike, Airbus, nTop, PhysicsX, Siemens Energy, Synera, McNeel/Rhino, Augmenta, and more. Use code 3MF at registration for 30% off attendance. https://lnkd.in/gvTSTrwJ
