Kat Hughes is a freelance journalist, moderator and essayist specialising in both horror and action cinema. She has been writing professionally about film and television since 2013, and can regularly be found covering the latest genre festival.

Experience and Education

After studying Media Production at Lincoln University, Kat decided that rather than go through the stress of making films, she would write about them instead. She started writing for THN in 2013 and is the current Deputy Editor of the site. In addition to her work with THN, Kat has bylines with Dread Central and Film Stories amongst others, and her work can be found on the physical media releases of several Second Sight, Vinegar Syndrome and Arrow Films releases. When not writing, Kat hosts micro podcast Movies with Mummy along with her seven-year-old daughter.

Favourite Movies and TV-Shows

Having been brought up on a healthy diet of early era James Cameron, The Terminator, Aliens and Terminator 2: Judgment Day remain three of her favourite movies. Others include Gremlins 2: The Next Batch, Labyrinth, Donnie Darko, Hellraiser, The Crow, anything with Keanu Reeves in but primarily Point Break and John Wick, as well as having an unhealthy fixation on The Fast and the Furious franchise.
