Note: First appeared under this title in 1913 per The Greenwood Encyclopedia of Folktales and Fairy Tales which further states that earlier manuscript versions were untitled. The notes for the Clairval translation indicate that the story was first published in 1808 in Clemens Brentano's Frühlingskranz, which is a collection of correspondence between von Arnim and her brother. It may have been untitled in that collection.
