Synopsis: The fakir Perkins is mentioned only in the March 1903 "Preface" (pp. [7-8]) and in the running header on even-number pages --apparently from automated search at HathiTrust Digital Library. From the Preface: "One Perkins, a Yankee who lived for fifty yearrs in India, and became an adept in mysteries rejected by the Occidental mind, is responsible for the curious psychical transpositions described in the following pages. ... "I have taken the liberty of telling these stories in the first person. ...   E. S. Van Z.   Hartford, Conn., March, 1903." The stories were told in the first person originally. Here they may be entirely unrevised, merely augmented by the brief verse at the head of each story, attributed to "The Light of Asia".
